Guest Bethesda_Jim October 1, 2007 October 1, 2007 Howdy Wham-assers, I am going out of town for a few days and my wife doesn't like me using her friends as my personal tank keepers when I am gone (they're the closest). So, I am looking at purchasing an auto feeder. Anyone have any recommendations? I've used the el cheapo in the past and I got what I paid for. So, any thoughts? Also, I know they have these little cubes and what nots for freshwater aquariums. You drop them in and they supposedly feed the fish for 7 days. Has anyone found or used the saltwater version? Thanks, Bethesda_Jim
jason the filter freak October 1, 2007 October 1, 2007 The ehime auto feeder with the built in fan to keep the food dry works freaking well. It's also got a bunch of features and will feed out to like a month or so. The regular price for a new one is 39.99 pm me about a discoutn though.
wreck October 1, 2007 October 1, 2007 Jim, I use the Current Auto Chef fish feeder and it works great to feed marine flake and pellets. You can borrow it to try it out if you want. I also live close to you, I could watch your tank for you, no problem. mogurnda October 1, 2007 October 1, 2007 If it's just a few days, they won't need food. For longer trips, I have tried three kinds of auto feeders, and they all do the job.

gastone October 1, 2007 October 1, 2007 I'm with Dave on this one. For a couple of days the fish can forage for food. My Coral Beauty grazes constantly and the maroons have various pods/shrimp they can eat. Even for a week I wouldn't worry about it. Of course, if you had anthias then perhaps it is a different story. rioreef October 1, 2007 October 1, 2007 Fatten them up with some extra food before you go. I have the Ehiem and it is great. I went away for a month and my wife refilled it when empty. I prepared a batch of flake food with nori sheets ripped up into small pieces and placed in a ziplock bag. You could even throw in some pellets also. No feeder and having someone feed? I have used those small plastic cups with lids that you get from say McDonalds for holding ketchup. Just as described above, but I put the food in these. My neighbor then just opened one up and dumped it in, one per day. Premeasured and no worries on my part about overfeeding.
