toastiireefs September 20, 2007 September 20, 2007 are there any algae eaters that are small for a 40gltank? i know there are some um.. butterflies? that eat algae.. but is that too big- and are algae eating fish picky to what type of algae it is?
jason the filter freak September 20, 2007 September 20, 2007 Bi-color blllleeeeeeeeeeeennny freaking awesome fish, neat personality too. Also lawnmower blenny, and a variety of others.
Caribbean Jake September 20, 2007 September 20, 2007 pigmy angels like eating and gracing, but they need other food too to supplement their diet
zotzer September 20, 2007 September 20, 2007 (edited) Another vote for a blenny! They are such fun fish!! The little angel does too. He actually ate the hair algae off my fuge return....Spot, the blenny, never ventured all the way up there. Tracy Edited September 20, 2007 by zotzer
treesprite September 20, 2007 September 20, 2007 this is making it sound like I should get one...hmmm
Caribbean Jake September 20, 2007 September 20, 2007 compare prices between a blenny and little pigmy angels like coral beauty, arabic pigmy angel and others. might bring up some choices, just a suggestion
toastiireefs September 20, 2007 Author September 20, 2007 (edited) hmmmm soo a blenny... any particular ones? lawnmower (sounds like it would be a good algae eater) hehe so the other fish i was considering in the long run firefish a pair of clowns hmm im sure there was others but its cool-- now that i have a blenny as an option EDIT- so im debating between lawn mower bicolored tailspot Edited September 20, 2007 by toastiireefs
zotzer September 20, 2007 September 20, 2007 Orange-spot blennies are very fun. They aren't quite as pushy as a lawnmower blenny, and they dart around the tank more. They are a "grab and dart" type, as opposed to the lawnmower who is a "grab grab grab" type. I'd categorize my orange spot's behavior as a morph between a lawnmower and a midas. Tracy
treesprite September 20, 2007 September 20, 2007 Tracy, I thought you already have a blenny of some sort... isn't it "Spot" or something?
zotzer September 20, 2007 September 20, 2007 Yeah, that's him above. I was giving the orange-spot a shameless "plug" as a good algae-eating option.
toastiireefs September 22, 2007 Author September 22, 2007 so is a tailspot blenny a good algae eater-- generally any blenny a good algea eater cept the venomous ones
