jason the filter freak September 24, 2007 September 24, 2007 I'm hoping to be set up by Thursday - the silicone should be cured before then. I'm using the LR, sand, and caulerpa that I already have, so there won't be any cycling to do. I will be using a PC fixture, and there's a lot of natural sunlight unless it's cloudy outside. I need to have corals to put in this thing now (and my regular tank). Do you have any suggestions? Anyone got some they don't need? In my 2.5 pico i have shrooms, gsp, and kenya tree growing just fine.

treesprite September 24, 2007 Author September 24, 2007 (edited) he has a thread for it, but we do need some current pics, Jason. How well do you thing zoa would do with the lighting (i.e., a lot of natural sun, PC if needed)? I'm not painting the back of the tank. I can't believe I'm going to all of this for a damsel that went carpet surfing a few hours ago :( I miss him already :( I really didn't want to have to get rid of him... he was worth the trouble, but not if he's going to go do something stupid. I found him on the floor still alive, and put him back in the tank, but when I checked on him a couple hours later he was dead. :( So, now I have to come up with some nano fish. I sectioned off about 4 or 5 inches so it's sort of a fuge/sump... actually, a place to stick caulerpa and hide equipment. I'm going to put some caulerpa in it, which will hide the heater, and I guess I'll stick the airstone skimmer in there. I'm going to put LR rubble in a fluval 305. The hook thing that goes over the edge of the tank will have the intake side in the little fuge/sump section, and the output will be on the other side of the divider, which is the main tank section. If I want to use carbon, would it work out to put it in the fluval above the rubble? Equipment is in the car, buckets of sand and rock and caulerpa are waiting for me to grab them as I go out to work tomorrow morning. It's going to be hard to get any work done, as in the work I get paid for. Edited September 24, 2007 by treesprite
treesprite September 25, 2007 Author September 25, 2007 tank is in the office. Sand, rock, caulerpa, and water are in it but rock is just in a jumbled heap right now. I forgot to bring the glass top to work with me this morning. Right now, the fluval has some sponge in it until the sand settles out of the water, then it will have some rock in it. If I remember my cheap a** camera tomorrow, I'll take a picture of it.
jason the filter freak September 25, 2007 September 25, 2007 Any pics of your nano? I bumped mine and two other pico threads up. Mine is updated. Forrest when are we going to see some pics of this little project of yours?

I brough my cheap**s little camera to work today - no batteries. Need 3 batteries, have 1 new and about 5 dead or nearly dead - I'll see if I can't get at least a little juice out of them.
jason the filter freak September 26, 2007 September 26, 2007 I'm going to be fixing up a pico as a door prize for the next club meeting. I went with an old 5 hex to reseal (you gave me the idea... I hate you for it. lol it's such a pita)

I hate you for it. lol it's such a pita) What a cool idea for a door prize. You know you were just dying to re-seal something to perfection. Well, there appears to be something wrong with the camera. I acts like it's taking pictures, but then there are none.

treesprite September 26, 2007 Author September 26, 2007 The fish plan: Stage 1: get a couple baby clowns from Rick Stage 2: when clowns are a little bigger, trade as a juvenile pair for fish that will be comfortable in the tank life-long. The Coral plan: I'm kind of wanting a couple different zoas, colorful shrooms, and something that moves in the current.
treesprite October 7, 2007 Author October 7, 2007 Well, I finally put something in here - 2 little astreas, 1 mexican turbo, and 3 hermit crabs. No fishies yet - haven't had a chance to go get them. I came into my work today and found the fluval not running - looks like I didn't have the impeller cover snapped in properly. So, there was no circulation on the sump side of the divider, but I have a powerhead on the main side. The sump water level won't stay lower if the fluval isn't running, and so the cup on the airstone skimmer was overflowed, but it's of course an in-tank thing so id didn't do any damage. I put my power sweep in the tank, which isn't very powerful but it blows the sand a little, but I don't have that little flow director thing on the front because I left it at home - once that's on there I shouldn't see too much sand moving. The main section only 15", so Ive got a LOT of circulation and flow between the power sweep, fluval 305 output on the opposite side, and the overflow moving water from the surface. I can't get the freakin rock to look decent. Doesn't matter what size tank I work with, I just suck as scaping. I'm really happy that the sump/fuge is working out the way I planned and from the front looks decent since the caulerpa is a very nice cover (this is why I'm not using chaeto in this tank). Might be too much caulerpa though, for the little bit of space it's in it has no "breathing" room. I hopefully can get the fish later this week.
zotzer October 8, 2007 October 8, 2007 I'm kind of wanting a couple different zoas, colorful shrooms, and something that moves in the current. Well, if Hung doesn't mind (since I promised him red shrooms)...I can offer a very prolific giant red mushroom or two at the November meeting. I mean...I have had this shroom rock for only about a month, and it's dropped at least four "babies" that I can see. It only started doing this a week or so ago, so they are coming fast and furious at this point. LOL They are actually really pretty, and really BIG, so one or two would go a long way in a little tank. Oh, and my kenya tree is reproducing all over the place, so if you want some, I'll bring that too. Let me know.... Tracy
treesprite October 8, 2007 Author October 8, 2007 lets get some pics forrest. Hmmm.... let's give Forrest a camera, Jason! That would be awesome, Tracy, as long as Hung gets what he's expecting.
treesprite November 5, 2007 Author November 5, 2007 still no fish in it - no time to pick them up. This is very interesting. In all this time I've seen no algae on the walls of the tank. There were some spots of diatoms 1 day and that was it. Maybe because there's a TON of caulerpa in the fuge/sump section in comparison to the size of the tank - stuff grows like crazy in there.

treesprite November 6, 2007 Author November 6, 2007 still no camera. Actually I think I discovered the problem yesterday . My memory card I believe is bad, and the memory that is built in will not hold the pictures if the batteries are dead or removed. Well, my batteries seem not to be secure inside of their space so the camera is always cutting off on me, which is just like taking them out, so the pictures are lost.
