bigJPDC June 26, 2007 June 26, 2007 Hello - I seem to have some orange\reddish spots spread out over an area of my rock, showed up last weekend, while I was out of town. Can anybody help identify this? thanks! jp
Black Mammoth June 26, 2007 June 26, 2007 Wow...must be the area. I have some as well. I haven't had a chance to get rid of them yet. Annoying little buggers.
bigJPDC June 26, 2007 Author June 26, 2007 I don't know what to think, honestly. It shouldn't be russian roulette everytime you add something from an LFS or another reefer, but I am on some kind of streak now.
Black Mammoth June 26, 2007 June 26, 2007 Have you been engaging in unsafe frag swapping? I don't think so. Mine showed up a long time after I got some frags.
lanman June 26, 2007 June 26, 2007 I don't think so. Mine showed up a long time after I got some frags. Mine showed up three days after I got a Carnation Coral - and all of them were near the new coral when I first spotted them. So I have my suspicions. By the way - moving everything into the 58-gallon tank via buckets of EXIT! seems to have kept me from getting any flatworms in the 58 from the 45. Now I just have to clear the frag tank, somehow. bob
lanman June 27, 2007 June 27, 2007 what is "exit"? Salifert's flatworm killer. Read the instructions carefully - and look up some discussions about it on reef central or somewhere. The death of large numbers of flatworms can cause problems, even though the EXIT! is supposed to be harmless itself. bob
Sugar Magnolia June 27, 2007 June 27, 2007 Bob is right, the Flatworm Exit is safe, but when the large population of flatworms begin to die off, they release a ton of toxins into the water. I've read horror stories about people who have used it without following the directions as stated on the bottled and ended up wiping out their entire system. I've used in the past with no problems. Directions must be followed EXACTLY. Good luck!

I'm still debating on a course of action to clear the frag tank. It was suggested to me that I should just start over with the refugium - a good idea, because I need to re-design it anyhow. Maybe I'll kill the flatworms in it, and do a 100% water change. I have a couple of 10-gallon tanks to hold the macro's while I'm playing with it. bob
