Connor June 21, 2007 June 21, 2007 hey everybody i was just wondering what most of you use to cover up the back of your tank so that you can't see all the way through it. Right now you can see my staircase through some holes in my rockwork and it just doesnt add to the natural look of my mini reef tank. Thanks Connor
Black Mammoth June 21, 2007 June 21, 2007 I painted the back of my tank. They also make covers you can by. All you do is cut them to size and tape them on. I think that painting them looks nicer.
treesprite June 21, 2007 June 21, 2007 Mine is painted black. The black works well for color contrast while waiting for coraline to completely cover that wall, if you are into that look.
fab June 21, 2007 June 21, 2007 A very dark blue looks very natural. It is what the ocean actually looks like from underwater in the late afternoon near the equator when you look horizontally and when the water is clear of plankton blooms. That's why we say "diving in the blue" when we refer to diving in the open ocean. Earlier in the day (e.g., 1000-1400) within 25 degrees of the equator it looks more of a sky blue, but I don't think that looks as good in a tank. fab
Guest JasonD June 21, 2007 June 21, 2007 I used the blue plastic you get at the fish store. But, 70% of the back of my tank is covered in coraline now...in a couple more months I won't need anything on the back.
Connor June 22, 2007 Author June 22, 2007 id like to get my back covered in coraline but right now im just trying to find something to patch it up And would i use regular paint when if paint it or is their a specific type i should use thanks for all the quick responses
treesprite June 22, 2007 June 22, 2007 for that I used this paint that is used to dip tool handles in to rubberize them, and used for marine applications. It's very heavy paint and is kind of like a rubbery coating when it dries. It does peel off if you really work at it so it has that advantage over other black paint types
Connor June 22, 2007 Author June 22, 2007 (edited) thanks last question should i do anything to cover up my tank to protect my corals and fish or will they be fine Edited June 22, 2007 by Connor
treesprite June 22, 2007 June 22, 2007 thanks last question should i do anything to cover up my tank to protect my corals and fish or will they be fine When you're painting, yeah, but if its spray paint I would not attempt on a filled tank even covered.
jason the filter freak June 22, 2007 June 22, 2007 You may just want to do with a stick on back ground if the tank has occupants
Connor June 22, 2007 Author June 22, 2007 alright i saw some blue stick on background that i guess i will try to use im also going to try and post some pictures of my tank because im going to get a whole bunch of frags today
kngfisher June 22, 2007 June 22, 2007 http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/cat/infoL3...13/category.web used blue and black ....two different tanks....I prefer black but coraline will cover eventually.
Connor June 22, 2007 Author June 22, 2007 thanks for all the feedback i think ill go with a blue background
Connor June 22, 2007 Author June 22, 2007 (edited) all right i guess ill use black until i have enough coraline to cover up the back of my tank Edited June 22, 2007 by Connor
