Wavyseas installation?

Okay - I got a wavyseas and controller. I'm trying to follow the instructions, which seem so simple - but I can't get the mounting bracket over the 'lip' on my tank. Am I missing something??

I know that they make an attachment for people with larger edges on their tank. Mine wouldn't fit either, so I ended up putting it on the center glass brace. Worked great. I'm pretty sure BRK has the extention that you may need.

Note: A 1.25" Mounting Bracket is available separately for those with tanks thicker than 3/4". Other tank models with unique edges may require some trimming. If trimming is not an option, easiest way to mount WavySea onto an edge that will not fit is simply to add a small wooden board on the side you want WavySea. Attach the WavySea onto the board.

 

Next question: Does trimming the plastic edge down make the tank weaker? Mine not only has a small 'lip' on the inside, but a thick, black decorative moulding on the outside.

The extension piece is only $30 or so. It would just buy that so there's no worry of trimming or shaving my tank.

NEXT question - how would I go about mounting a 'board' on the tank? Maybe some silicone? I don't want it falling off some day while I'm at work...

Trimming the 'lip' on the inside MIGHT allow me to slip it over; especially if the plastic moulding is a little flexible. Right now it fits 'snug' on the molding, and stop against the lip. I'm thinking maybe a 3/4" board, cut into a little triangle, and glued down onto the lip with silicone might do the trick. I'm going to give it a test run without any silicone, and see if it looks okay.

Okay - silicone wouldn't do the trick, I don't think - there's a fair amount of weight pulling the board down. Might be able to screw the board into the 'lip' on the inside of the tank, though. I'll see if the 1.5" bracket will work for me.

Dont trim anything unless there are no other options, your tank has that lip there for a reason! Come and get the large bracket, I think they are like 25 bucks, and do it right and be done with it.

Some things are worth doing DIY and some are not. I bought the bracket and am very happy with it. $30 well spent.

Already went and got it! And some live rock for the sump - but I just had to get a piece of that Marshall Island rock while I was there. If you still have any after I get this thing set up, I might get that BIG piece. It's so decorative, it doesn't need any corals.
