Over the past year I've attempted to add three fish and only one (a large clakii clown) survived. I saw the royal gamma for a couple of days but he hid whenever I added food and then I never saw him again. The firefish I added a number of months later I never saw after he entered the tank. Same goes for 3 peppermint shrimp. Otherwise i have had no fatalities. I have a 72 gallon tank with a yellow tang, female fiji damsel, three stripe damsel, neon dottyback, three peculas, the clarkii and another fish I have never identified but looks like the shape of a striped blennie but has red stripes. So I was wondering about adding some blennies, or gobies or firefish (maybe a pair this time) but didn't want to doom them. Is the neon dottyback or the damsel problemmatic with these additions? Thanks. Dano

Most damsels can be very aggressive.

do you ever see them chasing anyone else around?

(edited)

my 2 cents.

you have 2 damsels which are aggressive. You are mixing Clowns which is not recommended, plus a clakii's which are somewhat aggressive. Firefish jumped out of the tank in fear. blennies don't like each other. Both the neon dottyback and the damsels are problematic.

I would take out:

all damsels

dottyback

and either the 3 perc or the clakii.

I agree with Bob. IMO, the neon dottyback is your primary problem followed closely by the Clarkii. The neon dottyback's will eat any inverts you have and the clown will most likely eat any shrimp that escape from the dottyback (I have watched a sebae clown, not as aggressive as the Clarkii, slam shrimp when I put them into the tank and basically rip them apart).

Thanks for the feedback... right now they all seem to get along well enough. They have been cohabitating for years (with the exception fo the clarkii who is only in my tank for the past 6 months but who seems to get along with the peculas). The 3 stripe damsel is the only chaser. The damsels and dottyback came with the tank when I bought it 4 years ago or i wouldn't have them. Assuming I don't take any out (since my kids get more attached to them than I do), any recommnedations as to what other fish I might add to the tank? Though I am also o'kay leaving it status quo. Thanks again, Dano

In my 90, the agressor in the yellow tang.....my stock consists of the following;

1 yellow tang

2 Percula Clownfish

1 Pajama cardnal

1 Azure Damsel

I just added an Eibli Angel last weekend and although most of the agression is over at this point, the eibli does have a nice nick on the side where the tang managed to pin it against a rock.

Have noticed all fish in tank get out of the path of the tang....Any one or all of the fish could have helped in the missing livestock mystery.
