jamal February 2, 2007 February 2, 2007 i recently tested my alk and it is at 1.5dkh so my question is will this level effect or even kill fish? it has been this way for a few days as i test weekly and last week it was 9dkh. salifert test kit is used.
Coral Hind February 2, 2007 February 2, 2007 I would do a retest, that is a very big drop in one week. What are your PH readings?
rrubberbandman February 2, 2007 February 2, 2007 what tyype of tester????????? i recently switched from IO alk tester to salifert...........IO has good salt but the alk tester was way off...like 2 meq/l Bryan
flowerseller February 2, 2007 February 2, 2007 I'd re test as well. I use 2ml and one drop and double my findings as a routine. Periodically, I do the full test of 4ml and two drops for confirmation. Tell us what you add to the water as this may be the reason your numbers are what they are. As far as health goes, my opinion is that it does have an effect on long term health but that's also ready to be pounced upon. Some believe the food is responsible for the calcium fish need for skeletal growth and some think water has nothing to do with it. I think it does from an element content standpoint. The argument against my opinion, anyone ever tested the air for calcium and yet we still grow.
jamal February 2, 2007 Author February 2, 2007 i will do a retest. my ph has been between 8.11 and 7.90 day to night. yea i thought it was weird to as my cal was 400 a few days ago and now it is 100 so i dont know whats up
Coral Hind February 2, 2007 February 2, 2007 Have you seen anything like a snow storm in your tank lately? Sounds like your calcium might have precipitated out.
