dano December 4, 2006 December 4, 2006 being a bot overwhelmed this morning I accidentally turned on the hot water to make my R/O DI water and didn't realize it for a few hours. So... did I ruin all the filters and membrane and DI unit? Could I have ruined anything else (any seals or whatever?) I did use a tds test on some cold water after I realized th mistake and it came out to 2PPM, but the DI cartridge is all black and orange. Thanks. Dano
kngfisher December 4, 2006 December 4, 2006 did that myself once or twice....tds still reads 0 for me....in 135 out 0 :-).....what is your tds level in compaired to out?
dano December 4, 2006 Author December 4, 2006 what do you mean by "in" versus "out". My cold tap water was measuring around 165 and the hot water after r/o did was measuring 2. Should mention this is a new TDS and I have never had one before.

Was this the only time you measured the TDS of the water going into the RO/DI unit and the TDS of the water leaving the RO/DI unit (not the waste water)...
dano December 5, 2006 Author December 5, 2006 I can't remember if I tested the ro/di water before running the hot water through it
davelin315 December 5, 2006 December 5, 2006 The problem with hot water is it has more dissolved solids in it, some of which may not be detectable on a TDS meter. Also, and of this I'm not sure, but the hotter the water the more the membrane will let through. Basically, what I think happened is that you taxed your carbon and prefilters a bit more than normal and softened up your membrane. Just like water that is too cold can result in less water being pumped through, hotter water (this is me extrapolating from what I know) will let more water through. Shouldn't do any long term harm, although it may reduce the life of your carbon and your DI resins.
Buckeye Field Supply December 11, 2006 December 11, 2006 You may have toasted yur membrane. Use your tds meter to keep an eye on it. Russ @ BFS
