  1. Steve, Why do you think eels are not reef safe? I have one in my 180 gallon? (have shrimp, some small fish).... Dave
  2. I can't speak for all the MD's but I really am interested in meeting some people in the group, so I'll probably still try to make it down to VA for the meetings (where is steve's house btw). Dave
  3. Well I can't speak to euro-reef, but I did have a turbo-floter (I currently have an ASM G4... similar to euro-reef but cheaper). I found that the turbo-floter did an "ok" job, but the ASM is hands down better (once I got the right size pump for it). I was starting to get a hair algae problem when I had the turbo-floter, but now with the ASM it's definitly receeding and will be gone soon. To me, in my own experience, I feel that the ASM is out performing my turbo floter. Dave
  4. We're basically looking for a place to gather bar-b-q correct? I'll see what I can do in the rockville area. Dave
  5. My experience is hit or miss. My CBS will chase and try to catch the other shrimp... So far they have been sucessful at avoiding him (and he has stopped trying as much) (I've had him and my skunk cleaners for about 1.5-2 years). Dave
  6. I think putting a date on it will help people know if they can make it or not... Pandora.... How hard do you think I have to pull them just to get them up to Rockville? Dave
  7. Well just to get on the PM list and say I'm interested.... Dave
  8. Having a dog (an older one... she's 12 this year) my wife and I decided to go with a dog-sitting service (rather than taking our dog to the kennel) when we go away. The critter sitter also takes care of my tank on her twice daily trips over. (and it's no additional cost over care for the dgog) She feeds and adds additives, etc (allthough I make it simple as possible for her by leaving out amounts to feed in small tupperware containers and addative info). I also have a web cam that I set up when I am away so i can check on relative health of the tank, and if she has problems she can call me and show me whats going on. Dave
  9. David I don't know that I've read a minimum... although I have know people who for a short time when as low as 8 hours of lighting over their tanks. Mostly I would think you would see reduced growth... Have you tried a fan though blowing over your tank and/or sump?.... You would be surprised how much cooling evaporation does. Dave
  10. Let me give CJ a little boost ... I picked up some corals (and a clam) from him a couple of months ago, and am still trying to negotiate a better price on his Green Slimer... He tank is very nice and he has some awesome corals in there. Dave
  11. I've got Chaeto in my primarily I also have some caulerpa (which I feed my tang), and some mystery red algae that is very pretty (don't really know what it is)... Also live sand is what is in mine (only snails, and one small hermit are all that is in there... (other than a ton of pods, and some bristle worms) it's 29 gals That is correct, but it takes a lot of macro and reverse lighting to stabelize this, most of us are running much smaller refugiums than our display (me 180 display, 29 refugium) I can't stabelize my Ph with just reverse ligthing on my refuge... I also have to drip kalk at night and I still have a ~.18 Ph swing per day. I can't comment on the dissolved oxygen other than by refering to my Ph swings as a reference. Dave
