  1. Wow is all I have to say to some of these posts on here. It really scares me when some people take such a short-sighted approach. I also don't understand how you can say you are against pollution, but not against CO2 emissions. That is like saying you are against smoking, but love tobacco. I do not support any one figurehead on either side. In fact, I find it impossible to understand why their can be no middle ground. People on the extremes are at fault, and making this division so sharp only makes beneficial changes more difficult. I am not talking about global warming in specifics, but of the environment in general. There is such a disregard to the state of the natural world it is alarming. The thing that really annoys me is the simple things people to do that would help immensely, but they are too lazy to do. For example, every day I take the metro I walk out behind someone that throws their newspaper in the garbage. Nevermind they could walk 5 feet the other way to get to the recycling bin. Or the garbage bags I see filled with cans in the dumpsters. Is it really that hard to seperate recyclables. NYC discontinued their city's recycling program because it cost too much. Sometimes you have to prioritize what money is spent on. People fail to realize that we will run out of landfill space, then what are we going to do? matt I don't understand who is doing the pollution but us? Are the ducks and geese doing it somehow?
  2. Just wondering if anyone had any extra Dowflake or Prestone Driveway Heat. Looking to make up some more 2 part additive but cant find any at the Home Depot and Lowes I went to. I have heard Walmart has some but I don't have a car to get there. I will be at the meeting so I could pick up there. Thanks, Matt
  3. Here are some corals I am looking to trade. Looking for sps, lps, zoos, or rics. I have a 3 polyp frag of this frogspawn, its green with lavender tips. This trumpet has 11 polyps on it. Green centers with tan rims. Same as the last with 2 polyps. About 30 polyps of these zoos. I have a frag of 3 palythoa polyps mounted, could get more but would be unmounted. I have one or two of these ricordea unmounted. Let me know if anyone wants to trade for these so I bring them. Matt

  5. I agree on not quarantining mandarins. I worked at a fish store for 3 years, and never saw a single mandarin come in with ick or get any disease. The best thing you can do for them is get them into a tank with food. Not eating, lack of nutrition leads to a weak immune system and that is when they will get sick if they are going to. Most still will simply die of starvation, not infections. Additionally, I think it is a waste of time to try and get them to eat prepared foods. I think if you don't have the copepod population in your tank to support one, don't get one. Matt
  6. I have the Tunze Osmolator and think it was one of the best purchases I made for my tank. It is extremely reliable, with several backup systems on it. It primarily uses an optical sensor which is more accurate than float switch. It has a float switch backup that will tell the unit to shut off if the water level is too high. It also will only run the pump a maximum of 5 mins. Also if the pump runs dry it will shut off so you dont burn out the pump. My brother also has one and dumps kalk in his topoff water. Tunze recommends that you dont do this since the kalk will eventually ruin the pump, but they are only $20 to replace and his has been going for almost 2 years still strong. I think this is a better setup that setting a specific amount, because how much water I evaporate depends on many variable things...temp, humidity. matt
  7. I saw Premium Aquatics has them on their site today. Thinking about getting some actinics to add to my tank. Heard they look just like the VHO's. Matt
  8. Just went to F&F this weekend and picked up several corals. Some very nice corals there and very reasonable prices. I would recommend everyone go out and check this place out. Matt
  9. I drilled my sump with a diamond hole saw. Was a bit nervous about it the first time, but really it was a piece of cake. I also used the wood template idea to start the hole. Would strongly recommend this method. After I had a little dug I removed the wood and put a plastic cup with the bottom cut off over the hole. I taped this down and filled with water. Also, I disagree with the others saying to go at the highest speed. High speeds are what kill the bit because it overheats. The bit is meant to scrape the glass not melt it. I went at slower speeds and it took about 20 minutes to get through a 30 gallon tank. Here is a good page I found for info on drilling glass. http://www.shopsmartxpress.com/AmeriGls/Am...ult.htm?M9a.htm Matt
  10. Sorry but it is now sold. Matt
  11. I have a All glass 90 gallon aquarium for sale. It is oak trim and is not drilled. It is in excellent condition, with no scratches. I will also include a DIY 2 x 4 stand. I need to get rid of this by Friday. $100 or best offer. Call 202-262-9166 if you have any questions. Matt
  12. PM about tank/stand/sump. Matt
  13. I'd be interested in some corals. Problem is I dont have a car. If anyone is heading out there and wouldnt mind me tagging along I would appreciate it. I live in DC right by Foggy Bottom. Matt
