the only way i would add tap water is to let it sit over night before adding it. chlorines break down over ~8- 12 hour period.
better yet use carbon filtered water if you cant get an RO/DI filter.and pick up yourself a refractometer for salinity
mixing salts can be bad...different companies use different methods (chemicals) of achieving the salt mix.

dang it i missed it... it's been forever since we seen dr mac there.

Well really we all kind of make excuses for Roozens, myself included - they are what they are. Excuses like "move a lot of product" etc.........but they are pretty irresponsible. They don't really care how/where a fish comes from, they don't really care about survival rate......it's a pretty long list.
My "question" - they move a lot of product? Where's it going? (rhetorical) You get the idea.
Are they alone in this? Heck no, not by a long shot. How many stores you think really quarantine fish? Make sure they're eating?
Some will claim it & I'll toss out the BS flag.
You want a pretty certain quality? You'll need to shop places like Divers Den. Known fish, from an known source, in known condition. They'll even tell you exactly how long they've been there, what they're eating, where they were sourced. They're cherry picked fish. Ain't cheap though. A quick check shows a powder blue running $129.00 vs the $39.99 regular product @ their other operation. You just need to ask yourself which will really be cheaper in the long run.
How long you figure the LFS will be in business selling $200 powder blue tangs? (adding markup to cover added expenses of running the store) when the competition is selling $50 - $75 PBTs? Answer? About 5 minutes.
Ultimately it's the consumer (us)..........step up & pay the coin = we'll get a better product. If we were willing to pay the $$$ the store could afford to put in more effort. I mean really who the heck can really run a business (make a profit) making that kind of effort for the prices we're willing to pay? That's why Dr Foster & Smith has two "stores". One for those who want a quality product, the other for those who want fish.
Roozens "gets away" with because there's a demand - lots of fish @ cheap prices.
HE"S ALIVE!!! lol
something reefmon told me long ago "Wanna know how to make a small fortune in the reef hobby? start with a big one..."

So, it sounds like some of your other theories may be at work here.
i wouldnt call it a theory, lol. Tom almost always seems to have it locked down.

What Coral Hind said.
And, I don't know about acclimation, but basket stars are notoriously difficult to keep in captivity - one of those 'should be left in the ocean' animals.
Cheers

i love the aquascaping and how all your fish congregate on the left side all together...at least till i fed them lol

nah we like the suspense...lol
seeing it in person make me want a larger tank!

uh...where are the pics sir

The roller tray is a good model, but I hope these dump buckets can be a lot bigger. The 20' long part of the tank is 48" front to back, so it will handle a large bucket. Even the smaller 10' sides are 36" front to back and should hold a good sized bucket.
you could go to the national zoo in the invertebrates exhibit and take a look at their dump bucket setup on the cold pacific tank. may give you some idears...

i would say a pigmy angel of some sort...

Back then I used tap water like everyone else did. I did run it through a PVC pipe of carbon first.
This is what it looked like in 1972. It was all transfered into a 100 gallon tank a few years later.
something looks different about you.... new watch?

i have always had good luck with copper bands butterfly fish, of course he has a battle every so often with my yellow tang once in a while. i had tried everything except bergias and within a few weeks my aptasia is all gone... just make sure he will eat some mysid or something before you bring it home.

a hospital tank is the best bet...but i would feed it a mixture of nori, flake and mysis all soaked in selcon and minced garlic(the jar that has the juice in it) this gives it a varied diet and a better chance of getting the nutrients that the other food is lacking. not saying garlic is a miracle cure but i think it helps. i have also added the minced garlic in the tank...alot of times the fish will bite it but spit it out.just dont put all that food in at once and use just a little bit of garlic.
my experience has been good with this method esp. with buying fish at petco that comes standard with ich.

I'm not really an expert, I just play one on TV.
I think we are all fortunate to share this forum with some of the experts that many of us know:
Origami- the chemical electric expert
Almon and Doug - the clownfish experts
Justin- the aquaculture expert
Chip- the flower expert
Rocko, Johnny, Leishman, Gadgets- the guys whom have expert looking tanks.
Almost forgot Paul B- the expert of ancient captive reef systems.
There are many more that I don't know of and some that probably don't wish to be named, but this is one of those hobbies that is constantly evolving and making experts out of all of us in some small way that helps the greater good of the hobby.
I think I would add chip as a DIY and pizza expert. Paul B would go in the DIY expert category also.
as for me...i'm the "I know exactly what i need to do, but too lazy to do it," expert. :D
fish keep dying PLEASE READ
in New to the Hobby
aptasia without zooxanthellae are clear and if no zooxanthellae to feed them and no food being given to them they will die.
