  1.  The fixtures that I have, the Photon 32' or the IT2080's have 2 channels, and programmable capabilities. With my two, I have them programed to sunrise and sunset, from left to right, right to left. They can increase/decrease at half hour to an hour steps. I've found them to be extremely easy to use (like set and forget.) I should do a video one of these days to show the easy use of the features, and the success I've had with them. I also decided to use LED's because I am in an apartment, and even one MH kept me from having to turn our heat on last winter during the day. You're a ways away from me, but if you're ever in the area, you're welcome to come check them out.

i will look into the IT2080s  i think i saw these last night but was so tired i was just staring into the light... no pun intended haha

  2. Thanks Dave, i still have some old tunze streams with the controller but they are huge and I think only one works. time to test em out i guess. lol i do like the ecotech but I am Ballin on a budget. so may have to deal with wires for a while.

  3. ok so i will be setting up a new tank hopefully soon, and i am getting my laundry list together.

so i will start with surge/wave devices:

      are they still around?

can they be controlled with an apex?

do they contribute to tank seam failure?

    LED lighting:

i am starting with t5 and MH because that's what i have until i have until i get the funds for LED.

Which LED is best for the money that is controllable (sun up/sun down/actinic) for a 75g ~90g

thanks in advance for your replies.

i am looking forward to setting up another large tank...i miss my old sailfin tang...but may settle for the smaller ones.

  4. if you run any 90° it will slow your flow rate. and you can get schedule 40 ball valves at lowes with or without unions (screw in type) gate valves are used for fine tuning your skimmer or what have you.

    What is a Herbie system?

  5. as long as the dam holds up at lake anna the reactor should be fine. about 30 miles from where i live i had just gotten to work and it sounded like a helicopter crashing on the roof. no real time to react except for getting outside away from the buildings...

all is safe...i had a few breakers blow and came home early to fix that and clean up water. never really felt the after shocks here though.

just shaken and not stirred ;)

  6. I have a larger jellyfish tank I got from jelliquarium......I tried to keep jellies I caught from the Bay in it with no luck.....I tried both comb jellies and sea nettles.....alll died within a week.....I'm not sure why. I found it a real challenge to keep them alive.....maybe I'll try again this year when they come back........

Here is a link to where I got my tank:

    cheers,

    Darren

your water should be brackish or similar to where you caught em from and feed live brine nauplii (fresh hatched)they might live a tad longer.

  7. Thanks man. I think it is coming along - and is much better than it was before - but still not where I want it to be. I have so many ideas (build a backdrop and hide that stupid air lift with all the microbubbles, drill a hole in the fiberglass back and install a sump, and tons more), but... I keep getting reeled back in from funding. Little by little I'd like to chip away at my wants list. I finally got a calcium reactor set up thanks to a generous donation from Justin (ctenophore).

I'd also like to add a few of the other species of clams - deresa, maxima and squamosa. No gigas - they get too big, unless we turn the Spiny Lobster tank into a reef tank!

And, it's certainly not without its challenges, what with running a fishless reef and all... ;)

    Cheers

    Mike

dang tank 1 looks great mike. good job!
