  1. Thanks for the input and suggestions everyone. And yes that acrylic is the correct size (hmmm). I guess I shouldn’t find it hard to believe that companies are having difficulty acquiring glass since it took me forever to get a fence installed due to a shortage of lumber that was attributed to COVID. workers were sent home.
  2. Thx DajMasta. To be honest, I was always worried about acrylic as they seem more difficult to clean. However, I may want to do some additional research, as acrylic may have less failures. I know Custom Aquariums considers my footprint (30x84x24)to be a standard size they build and I plan to speak with them tomorrow. Thanks again for the tip I will check online for some of the 200 gallons you reference. I’m just at a point where I don’t mind spending the extra money for a strong quality build, because I am throwing in the towel if I have another tank failure. We spend so much money, effort, time, and husbandry with this hobby, and I lose another friend each time I ask for help moving a 400 plus lb aquarium down into my basement (lol). Moving these tanks around is a nightmare.
  3. Hello everyone. Unfortunately my 265 failed last night and developed a leak from the bottom. My livestock are in my sump tank, but I am need of a custom tank ASAP, as I will never buy another Marineland aquarium. can anyone please recommend a custom builder who does quality work and will not take over 3 months to deliver? Any help is appreciated. Thx.
  4. Good evening. I’m planning to plug the drain holes in the bottom of my tank with bulkhead plugs When I screwed the plugs in to see how they fit, I notice they will only screw in about half way the size of the entire plug Should this be the case? Or should it screw all the way in until it’s flush. I did not attempt to force them in. I have learned a long time ago not to force things.
  5. Thx everyone. I believe that when it sat flat on the new carpet for a short period that perhaps some of the fabric protector seeped into the trim of the frame. I will set it up in my garage and monitor. Thx again
  6. Yeah I’ll post a pic later. I’m thinking that at some point it may have been flat on the carpet and some type of condensation developed. I plan to perform a water test in my garage for 2 weeks before running it in the house.
  7. Has anyone experienced this or know what is happening? I bought a pre owned 265 almost a year ago that has never been used. It never had water in it and still had the original manufacturer stickers. No sign of any prior use It sat in my basement for 8 months on several 2x4s Today I moved to a new residence and when we lifted the tank upright, I noticed a brown oily substance running down the outside of the bottom glass (small amount) It seemed to be coming from the corner of the bottom frame I have no idea what this could be. To my knowledge the glass is held by silicone so I don’t think I have to worry about leaks Are the frames glued on? Could the glue or adhesive began to deteriorate some how and liquify? Any help is appreciated. Please... I cooked my rocks for 5 months and I am now scared to set the tank up until I know what is going on I may set it up in the garge with fresh water for a month to observe before placing it in my living room Thanks in advance for for comments or experience.
  8. Wow. Glad this was posted. I had never thought of QT for Chaeto. Razz, let me know how it goes. I. Plan to use Cheeto in my build in about 3 months
  9. I recently had some professional movers (not TANK movers) move a 265 gallon tank (400 lbs) into my house and downstairs into the basement (3x). Yes 3x. I purchased a USED 265 which they carried into my basement. Then I purchased a NEW 265, so they brought the old one out of my basement and then the new one back down into my basement. I provided the suction cups. They told me not to call them when I move, lol Not sure where you are located. I’m in Montgomery County. PM if interested and I can give you the owner’s cell #
  10. Hello everyone. Like so may topics in this hobby, methods of doing things can result in success with a variety of methods. And like many sources on the internet, you can find conflicting info. I started curing dry pukani about a week ago. Large Brute can, warm salt water, and a lid and circulation pump. I plan to cook the rocks for 2 - 3 months SHOULD I PERFORM WATER CHANGES REGUALRY? If so 100% or 20% and how frequent? I personally was going to do a 100% after 30 days to get more clean water in the can, but don’t even feel that it is necessary for this purpose. Please share your thoughts and experience. Thx in advance
  11. Personally, I would not risk it. About 15 years ago I had a 150 with a chip very similar to the size and location of your tank. The tank was manufactured by Glass Cages. At the time, it was only stocked with fish and the amount of time and $ I invested was minimum. I moved the tank above 3 times to different residences and it never had any problems. However, today, with the amount of time and $ invested in the hobby, I think you will sleep better getting a new DT. Just my .02. Good luck with any decision you make.
  12. Good point Tom. Thx is the best I can do at the moment because after I placed an acrylic rod in to determine the stability, the rocks were thrown into the cooking process. Thx again for all the tips
  13. So I have been making slow progress with the aquascape. I have no artistic skills so this has been challenging, but am going to stop here for now and start cooking. I placed the rocks in the DT for to get an idea of how it may look. I put a blanket beneath them in case my tonga rock fell off and chipped the glass( that is the type of luck I have). I wanted an open concept but am not fully satisfied and will eventually add more rock for corals. Please ignore the fact that the tank is backwards. Too heavy to move for this purpose. Also, the overflows will be removed and I plan to install a ghost overflow system. Rocks are cooking now (the order in penetrating the brute lids; may get some carbon), so I have several months to get the rest of this baby set up. My stand should be ready soon.
  14. Sorry for the grammatical errors with auto spell. I was wondering if it LEACHED in the rock perhaps.
  15. I recently drilled a piece of rock with a diamond hole saw bit. The bit was red and as I drilled and added water to keep the bit cool the paint was removed and resulted in a pick liquid forming on the rock. I tried bleaching a small area but did not soak the piece in bleach yet. there is still a slight pink coloration to the area and I was wondering it it perhaps peaches into the rock or am I just being paranoid. I am about to start cooking all of my dry rock this weekend and am considering just throwing it in with the rest of the rock. Below are pics. What are your thoughts? Thx in advance for your feedback
  16. Thx guys. I purchased a diamond hole saw today. I kept the bit cool with water and initially I was making a lot of progress, then I hit a hard spot that literally took about 10 minutes to start making progress again, but I took my time and eventually got through. It took about 20 minutes which in my opinion was too long. I must have been doing something wrong, but in the end it worked perfectly and did not crack. Thx for all of the input. I am now just about done aqauscaping.
  17. Great. Thx Tom for the info and also providing a pic. Heading to Home Depot this evening.
  18. Thx for the tip . I was not aware of that
  19. Hello everyone. I have a large pice of Tonga Rock that weighs about 30 lbs. I am considering drilling the base/stem of the rock but am a little worried about cracking it even if I drill slow and deliberate. I’m just not certain about the structural intergrity of the stem withstanding any drilling. I would like to drill it so that I can install a rod to adhere it to another rock. I have attached some pics. Please provide your thoughts and and experience.
  20. Just a heads up. I heard from a friend of the landlord that he had challenges with the drafty windows and a lack of insulation in the exterior walls of the house. Personally, I think that with proper heaters and a chiller it should not be a problem, but wanted to pass that on for you to bring up with the previous owner
