  1. I target fed my homemade frozen mix with a syringe next to their hideout - all three blue gudgeons are well. Woop woop!
  2. I just ordered some live white worms on ebay to start my own culture.
  3. That's a bit of a hike from me. I'll call around to some of the shops down here. I'll be in Herndon area on Wednesday, so maybe a shop up that way will have something if nothing down by me has any.
  4. Hi all - I have some picky fish in QT (blue gudgeon). I heard love blood worms might be good to feed them, and I also want to get white worms culturing. Any idea where I can find there in NOVA? I’m in Bristow.
  5. My Jabeo gyre is dead silent. So is my return, and small pump running my Jabeo UV, haha.
  6. I know I've seen some purists really get down on the Jebao products, but I've been impressed. I have a DC return pump that cost less than $60, it's dead silent, tunable, and hasn't missed a beat in 4 years!
  7. That's awfully frustrating. Looks like instead of the $60 they wanted for the repair (plus shipping both ways), I'll just spend $70 and get the Jabeo knockoff equivalent - delivered in 2 days thanks to Mr. Bezos.
  8. I'm searching all over the place. A couple years ago I got a Nero 3 from someone on here in a trade. I didn't use it until about 6 months ago. It's not acting up and AI wants a proof of purchase to look at it. Does anyone here have a better memory (or records) than me and remember trading this to me?
  9. I had no idea why I wasn’t “following” this post. Weird. Update: Humble fish has been helping a lot. One angel died the next day. Last night my tang died. Still treating the QT with furan 2, metroplex and kanaplex. I’m almost out of Furan 2 and can’t find any more. I also called around to LFS, and no formalin.
  10. I have a new fish in QT with what I believe is uronema. I can’t find formalin anywhere besides ordering it. I don’t think I can wait that long. Does anyone have some near Bristow I can buy from them?
  11. Fish selection opinions needed: I’m ordering a couple fish for my 130. I want a third to get over the free shipping hump. Currently I have a pair of clowns and a couple mollies. I’m ordering a pair of swallowtail angelfish. I’m considering either 1) longnose butterfly fish, or 2) lavender tang. Tank is about 4 months old. Which would you get?
  12. I’m getting close to beginning aquascaping my 130 cube. Doing a NSA style. I’m nervous because I don’t want to put in a ton of work and end up hating it. I’ve never done it before. Does anyone want to help? I live in Bristow.
  13. I'm in the planning phases of my living room tank, and I need help with sump fans. I need something in the sump, but I need this tank to be dead quiet. I was thinking of wiring up a couple 140mm computer fans because they can be around 15dB, but I'm worried they won't move enough air. What have other people done for extremely quiet air movement in their sump?
  14. That’s an amazing idea! I was worried about having to use starboard or something similar that wouldn’t look as nice. The hard part for me figuring out the distance from the wall is I am building and attaching the stand to the wall, so I’ll need to know where the tank ends up before I begin. Maybe I’ll plan for 4”, tape it out, and see what it looks like. I’ll “hide” the gap with a removable board.
  15. Happy new year!! I ended the year in a much better place than it started. I began broken and divorcing, and ended happily married to a much better partner. (Rather unexpected, and a whirlwind for sure!). She’s the big reason for this post, actually. She saw my tank hidden in a corner of the basement and asked me: “why do you have something you love and spend time on hidden? That should go in the living room” ??? 120 cube tank (3’ x 3’ footprint) finally getting setup in the living room. I’m doing a built-in wall unit, and the tank is the cornerstone. I’m building the stand “onto” the wall. Both holes in the bottom of the tank will be used for overflow, and I’ll have an external return. I want to keep the tank as close to the wall as possible to reduce room real estate taken up. 1) what should I put on the wall behind ti tank to protect it? My past tanks have always been a distance away from the wall on their own stands, and I anticipate this will be closer. 2) how close is too close? Return options would be to go between tank and wall, so that puts me about 4-6” minimum. Or, I could push the tank super close to the wall and put return in the corner by the tank/wall interface and hide it with the cabinetry I’ll be doing. I’d love your thoughts. Pic of where the tank is slated to go (half wall came down yesterday to prep for the build). Room is messy from the construction project.
  16. I need opinions on an ATO. I want to make use of BRS Black Friday sales. Which do I get? I’ve been using a gravity feed for a few years, but I’m doing a new build that will need to pump it about 8’ straight up. What’s the best bang for my buck? XP Aqua Duetto is on a good sale. What about the tunze nano with a bigger pump? (Is that the only reason for the price difference from the regular?) advice is appreciated!
  17. Good day everyone! It's been quite a while, but I'm finally in the formative stages of getting back to the hobby in a bigger way. I have a 3"' cube tank that I'm needing some help with. It's going to be a room divider/peninsula-style tank, viewable from three sides. I want to do NSA-style, but I've never done this before and don't want to make something that looks crappy. I'm going to go mixed-reef, so I'll need a few higher-up locations for SPS, some middle/lower flow for LPS, and an island or something (or two) for zoas/mushrooms. I have a tank running that I'll be transfering the inhabitants, but I know that doesn't always work well with NSA (hard to glue in established rocks). So, I'm thinking these will end up making the island(s) and breaking off what I can to place elsewhere. Does anyone have any inspiration, want to help with sketches, or even want to help make the structure? I live down in Bristow. Cheers! Ryan
  18. @davidm - I've thought of that. I'm not sure how much overlap I'll have. I also want to do a NSA aquascape for the new tank, so I'll have to wait until new tank is in new location until I know how to aquascape it. I'm also nearly certain I'll have some stand modifications for the new space as well. I'm really thinking there's a month of messing around before the tank gets wet - then a new cycle with new dry rock/sand. It'll be a bit. @epleeds - I'm thinking this might actually be the best option. Sell off common/easy stuff. Keep things I really like, simplify down the tank a lot and do the 130 right. I think the biggest thing here will be water availability on move day, but when that time comes I'll give a shout out here to see about borrowing additional buckets.
  19. So it’s looking like I’ll be moving at some point this summer. Not because of the housing boom - divorce. ? I have a 30 cube pretty decently stocked. In the new house I’ll be setting up my 130 gallon cube. The move is likely going to be a mess, so what do you all suggest the best way to do this? I don’t really want to move the 30 cube and set it back up - just to tear it down and setup the big tank. I also don’t think setting up the 130 is going to be a quick weekend thing - given everything else that goes into moving. I’m in a pickle. What would you do?
  20. I'm nearing the end of my box of RC (I don't go through a whole lot of salt). Is there any salt on salt that people know of? I'm OK switching to something if it's decent and on sale - probably not doing something top shelf though. Ryan
  21. Thanks for more info. I’ve been in the hobby for 10ish yeahs - just never had a tank this big so there’s a whole new category of fish for me to look at (never had a tank big enough to allow for tangs). I appreciate the thoughts and info. I guess my eyes were bigger than my tank!
  22. So I did more looking - seems as though despite the places that sell clown tangs saying a tank size, the concern is they need a huge tank (400 ga). So, it’s a shot to the heart for sure, but clown tang for sure out. heniochus seems to be similar? Needs more swimming room? What else could I look at for the clown tang replacement?
  23. Ouch - a shot straight to the heart! Can you expand a little on why you don’t think those would be good in the tank?
  24. Also thinking of a pair of spotbreast angelfish?
