  1. I second tropical lagoon. If you are just wanting to look at fish with your son but not buy anything House of tropicals will have the largest selection
  2. I have an outofeeder i can use for the Anthias, i also went a little bigger on my skimmer knowing i would have to feed more than normal with the fish i wanted. Havent created the cover yet. I have a canopy that is enclosed except for the back panel. it May be easier just to inclose that with a piece of wood
  3. Thanks my Fuge is quite small but like i said i am going to cultivate the pods. I am actually on the list for the mandarin pairs but am still on the fence if it will work out. Will the Wrasse compete for Pods with the Mandarins. Ifso i may just go another way. My fiance love the mandarins
  4. I have a 90 gallon mixed reef. At the moment the only inhabitant is a Valentini Puffer i have had going on 2 years. I have my QT and am ready to start purchasing fish but I want to make sure there are no problems with my list. Mostly worried about if this would be overstocked but also things like aggression and food competition. Below is my tentative list to add . 1 - Sunburst Anthias 1 - Pair of Occelarus or percula clowns 1 - Squaretail Bristletooth Tang 1 - McCoskers Flasher Wrasse 1 - Mandarin Goby - (I have seeded the tank with 2 16oz bags of poseidons feast and am currently cultivating pods. I will be waiting awhile to get this one to make sure my pod population is stable. Also looking into recreating Paul B's Brine Shrimp Hatchery so supplement as well) Does this list look ok. Any potential issues?
  5. yea i guess, depends on your situation. I can only have 2 pc4s so that would take up 2 of my channels. Its better for me to use the powerstrip so that i have the extra channel for something else.
  6. The best advice i have heard for this issue is to just buy 2 digital outlet timers and plug them into a power strip that plugs into one of your channels.
  7. I have some questions about the different channels and how they can be used. I was told by DA that my ato pump had to be in either channel 1 or 4 for it to function properly but it was not explained to me why this is the case. I took it as 2 and 3 did not have the capability to turn on and off but I'm not sure that's right either. Hence my confusion and questions. Hoping someone can give me some clarity here 1.) What are the differences between channels 1 & 4 and 2 & 3? 2.) Can i run dosing pumps on 2 and 3? 3.) My lights are all into one power strip that is then plugged into channel 4 and controlled via an ALC. Can the power strip be plugged into work or 3 since it will always be on? 4.) Does it matter what channel my heater is plugged into? TIA
  8. Thanks that seems like the way to go. I guess there is also the worry of it and other fish jumping into the overflow. Can i use gutter guard to fence off the overflow. would the metal be an issue in SW
  9. I am wanting my next fish to be a male McCoskers Wrasse. I do not have a lid and have heard all too many times about Wrasses jumping to their deaths. I do not have any type of lid on my tank, 90 gallon. I do have a canopy that is open only on the back of the canopy. I really dont want to add glass tops so i want to see what my options are. If I were to take plexiglass or wood and enclose the back of the canopy would that suffice. I have seen where other reefers have just made a screen lid but i have heard of the wrasses still jumping through those.
  10. Wanted to update. So my plumbing doesn't run straight down. It runs parallel for about a foot and a half. Turns out my pvc hanger had shifted and wasn't sure supporting the plumbing at all so the weight was causing the leak as well as the nut being stuck. As soon as I disconnected all of the plumbing the nut easily loosened. Feel kinda dumb, probably should have thought about that. Live and learn
  11. Thanks, but the gasket is on the wet side and this bulkhead has been fine for a few months. I think when my fiancee was fitting the plumbing she turned it a bit or something that made it leak. Could be as easy as just taking it off and putting it back on or i may need a new gasket. I just need to get it off to figure that out.
  12. So some of my plumbing needed to be redone and due to throwing my back out my fiancee had to help with fixing it. Well I am not sure why but after she fixed it the drain bulkhead began to leak. We both tried as hard as we could but we can not get the nut on the BH to loosen. We think it is leaking because it is overtightened or maybe even cracked sing it was moved and what not when we were fitting the new plumbing. I am going to get a pair of Channel Grips this afternoon and try that. Any other Ideas?
  13. I wish. Definitely not pods. They weye overly abundant in my last tank but I lost a vast majority of them during the move to this tank. About to make a large purchase of them.
  14. Somewhat of a newb here. What is Ozone? Is that a product?
  15. I just ordered some 100 micron filter socks, the ones i have now are 200 i believe
  16. I have a filter sock where water enters the sump. I believe it is right around the 400 gph mark. I have a compact+ 3000 as my return so i have had to dial the siphon down a bit. I dont really want to go with a bigger pump as i am already having a hard time directing the flow from the return. It is so strong it is either moving sand around or blowing my softies and lps pretty hard in one direction.
  17. No but i will try that. When watching the tank it really looks as if its not getting into the overflow, or the majority anyway
  18. I have a 90 gallon and am running the herbie method that has been up and running for about 5 months. I constantly see small particles, looks like sand but all of my power heads are aimed upward away from the bottom of the tank. They are not all uniform in size and are definitely not air bubbles. i believe it is the very small sand particles as i started this tank with new "live sand but this has been going on for weeks, I assumed the filter sock would take care of the problem but it hasn't. I am not sure if that is due to the sock itself or if these particles aren't making it into the overflow or what. I think the issue is that they are not making it into the overflow as the current in my tank is very random. Could i just put some filter floss in a filter sock and leave it in the DT for a couple of days? Any other ideas on how to fix this issue?
  19. Hi everyone, I am 29 years old and originally from Auburn,AL. I've lived in the Baltimore/DC area for about 3 years now. I bred and sold cichlids throughout college but took the plunge to a reef tank about a year and a half ago and oh what a learning experience it has been. Just recently upgraded to a 90 gallon but lost most of my livestock during a move so I am slowly trying to get back to a fully stocked and thriving reef. I'm looking forward to being a part of the community and learning from other members. I have been looking for some type of local club and this seems like just the place. Hoping to make the next meeting. Cheers
