  1. I had heating issues with my cube too. If you're keeping the lid on it, run the unit without a heater and see how it fares. Before going headless, my temperature stayed between 77-79 without running a heater. Also, get to know your enemies. The pics posted were not the clearest. Research mojano, aiptasia and mantis/pistol shrimps. Take care of that earlier than later.
  2. Not to deter you from tracking your progress here, I've found aquaticlog.com useful too. It tracks your measurements, equipment, inhabitants, set up date, costs (I stopped tracking costs, it was too scary) and also gamify it in a way. I've fallen off on entering measurements and inhabitants but if you keep on top of it, it is helpful. I can figure out when I need to change filtration media, how long my tank has been up and running etc. http://www.aquaticlog.com/aquariums/missjdub/2
  3. Good luck on your cube! I too have a biocube and am learning as I go. A huge mistake I made was with a refractometer. My boyfriend is a homebrewer and I used his refractometer to measure my salinity. However, it wasn't calibrated to measure saltwater. My target being 1.024-1.025 and it actually being about .35 ppm over. Best investment for me, my own refractometer with calibration fluid and an ATO.
  4. I'm very new to this hobby and finally started stocking my tank. I went to MAMAX in Virginia Beach and picked up various coral frags and didn't note my mystery frag. After looking at various pictures online, I thought I had a short tentacle fungia. This looks like a fungia of sorts but the pictures online don't quite match what I have. The placement and configuration of the tentacles are what make me unsure of what it is. Thanks in advance for looking! I want to make sure that it gets the proper care that it needs
  5. I didn't mount my unit to keep it mobile. I use it in my basement at the utility sink and outside. While my suggestion isn't permanent, you should be able to take it and connect it to your garden hose...If you have a garden style apartment.
