  1. I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but there's a small nub that looks like it's trying to detach from the coral. This has happened before in the same mouth. And the new nub seems to have a mouth as well. I thought it'd reattach itself to the base. Any idea what's going on with my frogspawn? Why is it trying to propagate itself? Any help would be appreciated. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using Tapatalk
  2. I have the micro smart ato. I've been using it for almost 2 years. I am trying to rate it 5 out of 5, what's your take on ATO?
  3. Thats a great idea. I will have to figure something out.
  4. That was my exact plan, until I tried to mount the light. My planning was flawed, since I somehow missed the big AC vent right where I need to drill the anchor to hang the light. Can you say "tunnel vision"? I was so focused on getting the light, I missed the vent.
  5. Thank you for your response. I am going to DIY new mount and get this out of the water. That's the plan for now. Once I get a handle on my algae I will fix the mounting issue. I was just curious, if this metal had any effect on the water chemistry.
  6. I've been battling all sorts of algae issue since January. I had a mini crash back in Fall. I had to take out all my rocks, livestock, except for my salt. Also, the algae issue could be part of a mini cycle, since I couldn't wait for the rocks to cure and grow the biological filter, I figured the sand was over a year old and that would suffice. Guess I was wrong. During that time I bought a new light fixture, It's a glorified black-box called, SBReefLight (https://sbreeflights.com/sbox-reef-lights/4-sbox-pro-32-timer.html) This light came with a mounting kit. I mounted this on top of my tank (since I can't hang the light due to the AC vent). I just realized, about 1/4" of the mounting legs (which is solid metal) is under the water line in the DT. It is not rusted, but I think at some point it will start rusting. My question is, having the mounting leg inside the water, will there be a water quality issue? Loudoun county has horrible water quality (for reef tank) as it is. I am worried if that metal is actually messing up my water quality/chemistry. Until I find a solution as to how to mount the light without using that mount, any idea if this could be part of the reason for these algae issue? Any help would be really appreciated. 7. 8 months is enough time to cycle and establish a decent biological filter. It's such a small little shrimp. And I am not saying you are wrong, It's just little odd that a shrimp that size would cause a mini cycle. I am little surprised to see NH3 in an 8 month old tank. You'd think your biological filter would be established enough by now. btw, would you know what kind of pods those were? Did you add them? How are your other inhabitants?
  8. You still have traces ammonia in your water column which should have been converted to NO3. if you don't mind me asking, how old is this tank? Maybe the biological filter hasn't established yet?!?! If I only looked at the last picture, I'd say your tank is still cycling, which could be a reason (possibly) why the shrimp died.
  9. I will. Job got moved to Rosslyn, so life's been kinda hectic. I'll hit you up one of these days, if you are available, I will stop by.
  10. Man, tank is looking nice. One of these days I should stop by to see this in person.
  11. Thing is my tank had been running for over a year. Recently I just re washed my rocks worth agent green to remove phosphate. And these algae is all over the place. Did your marine SAT work?
  12. It's brown. I'll pull some and take a picture.
  13. https://vimeo.com/200511539 From the video, can anyone tell what type of algae this is? It doesn't have any bubbles so I don't think it's dino. It's too stringy to be diatom. It doesn't even look like brown hair algae (???). Any idea what this might be?
  14. Following. I need to stop by your place to check this out. Looks really good.
  15. For the life of me I can't figure out what this is growing on my sand bed. If any one had any idea please let me know. I hope this is not Aptesia. It looks like it has tentacles. It's root is buried under the sand. I could easily get rid of it. But I'd like to know what this is, and where it came from. Very odd for this to show up. This is the only one I can see. I hope there are not any more in the tank.
  16. I need to do some research. I think I'll get a mixed of red sea and selifert test kits.
  17. I do use rodi. Which one would you say is a all around good testing kit? Red sea? Or salifert?
  18. Well that's a good question. But gets the kicker, if I somewhat blow the sand, it goes away. And there are no hair like strands. Wouldn't dino have stands?
  19. Di resin was changed about a month ago. My water pressure is at 50psi, so it depletes pretty quickly. I changed my powerhead placement. How that'll make a difference. Hate this ugliness.
  20. I'm thinking about investing on a better test kit. Also need to buy the Hannah Checker.
  21. So I've been battling diatom bloom lately. Did a 50% water change on Wednesday. Ran a test to see where everything is. Here's the result pH: 8 Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate: 0ppm (this is the odd one, I'm so confused) Alk: 10dkh I don't have phosphate tester. I know I need to invest on a henna Checker. My tests were all done using an api test kit. Any help you can provide as to why I'm battling diatom if really appreciate that.
