  1. Thanks! I'm sure it will. Lots of trial and error and questions for me...
  2. Hi all - thought I'd share a video of my biocube. Couldn't have gotten to this point without all of you. Loving my new hobby. Thanks WAMAS! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KiosTerpT5A&feature=youtu.be
  3. Thank you! I've already slowly adjusted the tank to the lights and noticed that when I went over the levels you mentioned the corals did start bleaching so I backed down. But the tank has just been on a simple timer with all on and all off am and PM. I'm excited to be able to add in the sunrise and sunset now. I'm sure the tank will be even happier. This gives me a great safe starting point to tweak from. Many thanks!
  4. Hi all, I'm installing my Typhon dimmer on my Coralife Biocube 29 today. I have the Steve's LED upgrade lights which is 18 Royal Blue Luxeon ES 3 watt LEDs and 10 4,000K Neutral White Luxeon ES 3 watt LEDs (Full Spectrum White LEDs). My tank is mostly LPS (hammers, frogspawn, duncans, torch, trumpet), some zoas, a few softies along with one beautiful RBTA (thanks Tom from Kyle&Amy!). My question is what should the recommended lighting schedule be set at? This is my first marine tank so I really have no idea what is best. We are usually down around the tank around 7am with the kids and head up to put them to bed around 8pm, so I would like some form of lighting on during those hours. I do have the moon light kit though so I can certainly program that to come on for a few hours too at the end if the main lights are going off earlier. I appreciate the input! Please be specific if possible. Thanks! Rain
  5. It is soft and retracts when I nudge it. Consensus is mushroom then? I'm happy if it is!
  6. Haven't tried to feed it yet but will give it a go tomorrow.
  7. Ok now that I have my fleshy limpet/scutus properly IDed, here is my next new hitchhiker. This blue green flower/mushroom thing just appeared on my top rock two days ago. It's coming out of a hole and at night it completely retreats into the hole in the rock and you can just barely see it with a flashlight shining into the hole. I'd say it's about the size of a quarter. Ideas? It's so fun to see how quickly you all know these things. :-) Thanks! Rain
  8. Thanks! It was definitely a surprise! :-) I have another weird thing showing up but waiting to get a pic of it. Stay tuned!
  9. Thanks guys! I feel better!
  10. I looked both of those up and it definitely seems closer to the fleshy limpet aka scutus aka elephant sea slug aka black sea slug? Am I right with these? Thanks!
  11. Is this an elephant snail? It only comes out at night, has two snail like antenna, has sort of clearish black/gray edges and a darker black center. About the size of a quarter elongated. The pic isn't the best since its at night. Thoughts? Thanks! Rain
  12. Excellent. Thanks so much! I feel a little more prepared to tackle this now. Appreciate the quick tips!!!
  13. Thanks for the tips! The Typhon has it's own power supply. Not sure on voltage though.
  14. No specific problem yet. Just want to make sure I have a clear set of instructions before I dive in. I have all Steve's drivers and power supply. Thanks!
  15. Hi everyone. I have the Steve's LED upgrade in my Biocube 29. I just ordered the Typhon LED controller to add in. The instructions are kind of confusing though. Wondering if anyone has done this before and has some tips or has found some better instructions online somewhere? I don't want to screw it up. Thanks! Rain
  16. The flow in the back seems ok for now but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!
  17. Happy to report that my tank is happy and stable with the MJ900. Hovering around 79.5-9 at night and 81 during the day. Corals are happy. It's not really any better than the stock Coralife pump but now at least I have a spare handy just in case.
  18. Yup I think I did.... Live and learn.... It's going back down slowly so I think it will recover.
  19. I was surprised too. I'm going to send it back and try the MJ900. Way lower on watts than the stock pump or MJ1200. You know, I did raise the alkalinity to 11 and now my corals look POed. I think you are right and I'll be content with my stable 7-8 level. I know people advise not to stress on hitting a specific number but as a newbie it takes time to relax. :-) Thanks!!
  20. Thanks Tom! Very helpful and I appreciate the advice!
  21. Ok everyone. I know this is a common problem with the Biocubes, but I need some help.... I have a Coralife Biocube 29. I have the Steve's LED lighting in it, a Jebao WP-10 wavemaker, and a Koralia Nano 425. The flow has been good and all water parameters are great with the exception of alkalinity running a tad low (7-8 even when calcium is good at around 420, thinking about trying a little baked baking soda... another topic but welcome ideas on this too). With the stock biocube return pump I was running around 79.8 at night and around 81-81.5 during the day. This is with the house at around 74-75 degrees. Not terrible but everyone seems to think a little cooler is better. So, with loads of research, I decided to upgrade my return to the Cobalt MJ1200. A lot of people really love them for the biocube. I installed it last night and bam, my temp overnight shot up to 81 and during the day was around 82.4. So my attempt to lower the temp a little did the opposite. Advice? Should I just return the MJ1200 and go back to the stock pump and call it a day? Should I try the MJ900 (people say that it is a lot lower watts so it puts out less heat). Thanks for any ideas!
  22. Tom - thank you so much for this great explanation. This makes me feel much better and I think I'm on the right track. The tank has been doing great so I am starting to test less frequently but was worried that was wrong. Awesome overview. Appreciate it!!
  23. Hello! I have a 29 Biocube. All levels are doing great and I have my wave maker and lights on a timer with the main pump and a nano powerhead on all the time. I check the levels every weekend with the API tests which takes forever. I see on some people's signatures here on WAMAS that it shows all their levels. Is there a system with probes that checks all these levels all the time and reports them out? I tried researching things like the Apex controller but it's still confusing to a newbie. Is there some plug n play "check all the important levels" tool? Thanks!!
  24. Excellent idea... :-) Thanks!
