  1. Anybody run the moon lights all night? Can anything bad happen from doing that?
  2. I like the idea of starting a little later in the morning and ending later at night. It seems like there isn't a tried and true setup, just what ever your personal preference is(as long as your inhabitants don't object).
  3. Do you keep both channels at the same level through the entire process, or do you have more blue when going up and down? It seems most of the schedules I've seen had more blue. Thanks
  4. I have them setup similar to you now, but I feel like I spent the money on these extra features so I should probably use them. Plus the sunrise/sunset and moon phase is pretty cool when showing off the tank
  5. I've finally hooked up my Evergrow IT light and I was curious if anyone would like to share their lighting schedule? I've searched all over the web and I've come across a few so far, but most of the threads are so long I haven't had the time/luck to find anything useful. I've searched on here also and came up with very little, but if anyone knows of a thread please share. I don't have anything in my tank yet except for liverock, sand and water. Will I need to slowly ramp up my lights when I start adding my first fish and corals? Thanks, Craig
  6. My son loves the show. Our DVR has about 15 episodes on it. They also have a bunch of books at the local library.
  7. Thanks for the offer, but I'm not sure I'm going to be down your way anytime soon. I'll PM you if something changes.
  8. Update: Amonia has risen and now dropped to 0. Nitrite is around 5.0 and I'm seeing some Nitrate as well. It seems that my cycle is moving along, but I was curious if I should be doing anything else. Add anything to the tank or water changes? Thanks
  9. Sure you will. Is this some kind of rookie hazing?
  10. I've heard this a couple of times and may get my bacteria in other ways, thanks. How long have you been in Ellicott City? I grew up there and went to Mt Hebron... a long time ago.
  11. Interesting idea. If I decided to go this way, how much and how often? And I also hope nobody walks in on me while I'm in the process . Did you do it this way?
  12. Thank you Shoelace, the video was helpful. Which do you prefer? Shrimp or dosing ammonia? I am going to add the Agra-alive sand once I transfer everything over to the display tank. Will this help with the cycle process? I already have the test kits. Craig
  13. I've been out of the hobby for over a decade, so forgive me for forgetting a lot of the basics. I've started cycling some rock and I was curious if I'm missing anything. I picked up some rock from another member but he took some of it out of his tank over a year ago and the rest he took out about four months ago. It's been sitting outside since it was removed from his tank. The plumbing on my display tank isn't finished yet, but I wanted to start the cycling process ahead of time. So I put rodi salt water, a heater, a power head and the rock in a trash can last night. Is this OK? What else should I be doing? I hope to have the display tank set up in the next week or so, can I move everything over at that time? Since this rock was once live, but now it's not, do I need to add anything to it now? At what point do I do water changes? What should I expect during this process? Thanks, Craig
  14. Thanks for all of the feedback. I'm definitely going with the special grade, and probably at a one to two inch depth.
  15. Do you think that less then one inch suitable for burrowing fish?
  16. So if I understand this right , Special grade is the size of the grains? Will this work well for gobies and wrasses? I haven't decided on a fish list, but I think I would like to add one or both of those type fish.
  17. I'm starting a new tank and really like the look of a sand bed. I'm curious which type people recommend to use or which ones I should stay away from and why. It's probably going to be about 2 inches deep. Any stores(local or online, I'm in MD) that have the best deals? Thanks for any input!
  18. Thanks for all the great feedback. I think I'm leaning toward the IT2060.
  19. Thanks Mr. 703! I have attached a different version of the word document with my dimensions on it. It's an older version of Word, so I hope it's easier to open. Just in case you can't open it, I'll try and explain the dimensions also. It's a 70 gal corner tank shaped similar to home plate. It's 30 inches from the back up each side. It then angles in a little for 8 inches. Then it is 31 inches across the front. It's 31" from the middle of the front to the back corner. CraigDon Fish Tank Dimensions.doc
  20. Thanks for your input. It's a corner tank and shaped similar to home plate in baseball, which is what has me confused on the lighting needed.
  21. I'm starting up my first tank in a long time and I was curious which LED lights would be best for my tank. I'm looking at the Evergrow lights, but I'm not sure which one will cover my odd shaped tank the best. I'm leaning toward the IT series. I've attached a rough diagram of my tank dimensions. It's a 70 gallon tank. Thanks! Fish Tank Dimensions.docx
