  1. Need to get Some in there. Hair algaes forming and theirs areas I can’t get to myself with glass cleaners and brushes. tanks been running a month now cycled I Ghost feed the bact every 3 days. Specs are all good. But what would eat hair algae and diatoms? I know it’s the beginning ugly phase but I need a little help from some critters. Something reef safe and hardy and I don’t need many. Just not those snails that can’t flip themselves over I won’t always be there to save them from the hermits. I love hermits. tank gets natural sunlight for like an hour or two every morning so I guess that’s what’s growing the hair. Need to get a curtain.
  2. I guess that ph drop a few weeks ago killed it. Oh well. Thanks guys. tomorrow I’m gonna go put a hold on some clowns and wait for them to finish qt by them my fallow will be Over. Kinda tempted to have them order designers and wait the extra 2 weeks or whatever it takes. Maybe a da Vinci and a Picasso or a photon.
  3. Do blue and violet lights fuel algae growth? I noticed my coralline algae I did have in my rock is fading away. i know we use white lights for macro algae. Just curious wanna try to save my purple algae. I also have a 6500k led light and a back chamber. Is chaeto over kill on a 5G? Wanna keep the algae at bay. I’m still fallowing I’m thinking about doing a bigger tank if I can get a cheap one since I’m playing the waiting game anyway.
  4. Yeah it’s really nice. I’ll go put half down on a da Vinci or something and wait out my fallow and get a healthy fish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I didn’t mean bringing in my fish I meant new fish you get in store under QT you can prepay til it’s done sorry for the confusion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I get what your saying. I’m not sure next time I pass by I’ll go in and ask. I don’t think they’d want much for a $20 clown. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Make it in the qt or once I get it in my tank? They have signs no guarantee on live fish I’m not sure about their QTing. I assume if it dies on they’re watch they are responsible. Just an assumption. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. So little update. Things seem to be stable today is 3 weeks running. I do want to test out my theory out about how the tight lid and no surface agitation caused carbon dioxide poisoning/suffocation in the hitch hiker hermits and pods. But I don’t wanna kill a hermit doing a test. My pods repopulated their everywhere so Maybe that’s the result of removing the lid and adding surface agitation? I never had any ammonia or nitrite spikes. Even that first 10 days. as in stable. Temp. salinity. Ammonia. trite. trate. No spikes or anything. So far so good. Water is crystal clear today no more bact bloom. What was velvet fallow again 4 weeks? I’ll go 6 and try itty bitty clownfish. Reef escape actually If you prepay they’ll med and QT a fish for you in the QT tanks and put a hold sticker on it til your ready. I may do that.
  9. Cool thanks.

    Dips

I’m googling and I’m not getting the answer I’m looking for. Lets say say a piece of coral has velvet cysts or ich or brook whatever. Will using a coral dip on that coral kill those cysts/eggs?, for future reference. Knowledge is power and I’m paranoid about diseases since the velvet thing 2 years ago. 4 more weeks til I get a fishy I can do this lol by the time I get a fish in there I’m gonna get bit by the “I want a bigger tank” bug. It’s already biting since I saw that free 80lbs of dry rock. I deffinatly have room for a nice big 200G AIO maybe I’ll hit dc reefer up with that leaky one I’m handy maybe I can fix it.
  11. Alan that is gross and hilarious ? Tom. I had coralline algae on my LR and it’s been dark it turned light pink I don’t wanna loose it. So I was wondering about the light. But after Alan’s pissy hair algae I’m good I’ll just seed it later lol
  12. I’m keeping up with my top offs I made a little marker. It seems to move after 3 days and it’s barely a cup of fresh water. I work evenings so I’m home to monitor evap. Plus AC been on non stop once it gets cooler evap will lessen.
  13. Oh your not being rude. And also when I make suggestions their hypothetical. I don’t really do anything like when I said water change I didn’t do it lol. the only thing I did when my nitrates went missing was dose liquid amonia to see what happens. It ate it in 6 hours. And nitrates showed up. Now next hypothetical question since I got my light. If I were to run a let’s say 8 hour light cycle. Algae blooms right? The algae will compete with nutrients the bacteria feed off if I remember correctly. And yes I want a ATO I’m looking around. If you have any suggestions like with the aqua knight LED (which is awesome) please let me know. I was reading reviews on some nano atos their not very positive. This is light is so pretty it makes me want a bigger tank already. it has a really nice spread. And it’s uniform color.
  14. I got this light today I must say it’s pretty awesome. Only thing I don’t like is the clamp gets in the water and it’s coated metal. I’m gonna make something to stick behind the tank to attach it to. Maybe a sturdy paper towel holder. But the colors really nice and uniform. No rainbows or stripes. And it remembers the intensity you had it set last so a timer will work with it. Awesome buy for $60. The coralline on my rock really pops so other more colorful things should look nice. Thanks for the tip on this light.
  15. I found my problem. Their was a yellow clown goby also in that rock fouling up my water. The head was floating around at the top of my tank this morning. I guess the bristle worms ate it and dislodged the head or pushed it out of the hole. Lesson learned don’t buy Craigslist live rock Should I do a 90% water change? Theirs no animals in there. 16. I remember Tom warning me about leathers a while back. They release something into the water to attack others I have to to thru my old posts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I agree with both of you guys. I didn’t add anything. just curious and did experiments I haven’t even done a water change. The hermits came in with the rock died and I was curious what killed them because their weren’t any readable specs in what I could check. My lights coming in today I’m gonna let that run and grow whatever. Hopefully not green water lol I’m gonna starve whatever diseases may be in there so I won’t add anything til around this time October. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Bacterial bloom today yayyyyy. Their isn’t any critters in there so just gotta let it do it’s thing. I think I did it with my ammonia experiment. Well better now then later when I invest in fish/critters/coral and it suffocates them by taking up all the oxygen.
  19. Euphs are a bit picky about placement in my experience. Too much flow too little flow. I would leave it where it’s at for a few days and see if it isn’t mad anymore lol. Moving them around pisses them off they stay closed. Do you have any leather coral? Leathers attack even across the tank.
  20. Yeah it’s pretty cool. I’m getting my light Sunday and I’m gonna test a hermit in there and see how he does. If all goes well I wanna attach some kinda matting softy to it. I know people here toss it out but I love’em
  21. Oh that. I got it online the packaging it came with says Safe for all Fresh or Salt Water Aquariums Durable quality and non-toxic Detailed accurately to look like real corals Highly porous for beneficial bacteria growth Made of bleached crushed sea shells and coral I’m debating if I wanna attach a GSP or Xenia to it later and have it take over the whole thing or just let coralline algae take over it. As for my sand. Probably a optical illusion. My cameras not all that good I still got a iPhone 6 lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Power head installed. Surface agitation and flow. Removed lid. Hope that was the problem. Gas exchange and oxygen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Oh I’m not rushing lol I don’t think you was around before I put fish in the same day In 2012 [emoji2359]. They somehow made it for a long time I actually sold that whole setup because I moved to another state. I plan on waiting til October for fish even tho I’m Cycled. I don’t wanna risk velvet being in the system I went thru that with my 2nd tank. the LFS actually will QT and treat the fish and hang on to them til your ready providing you prepay. I wish I did that last time. I’m curious and like to see what makes things tick. The vanishing nitrates and lack of oxygen and gas exchanges sparked my curiosity once the hermits just suddenly dropped dead. So I did experiments in an empty tank the other day. I do not have a ato i was looking at some online last night a lot of the reviews were bad even on some of the more expensive ones. The tank is just a basic AIO 5 gallon. Running stock return pump. Heater. Purigen. The rock came from established old tank. That white branch oranament is reef safe and very porous I’m trying to make it “alive” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. (Sponge bob voice) 4 hours later it ate the nitrites lol their gone. I guess I didn’t have enough oxygen and gas exchange. The hydrometer I have is that fluval one with the suction cup I keep it in there to see if theirs swings in the salinity. And my temp is also constant. Amazon failed with my one my one day delivery didn’t get the power head today. Hopefully tomorrow. Get some flow in there and I feel bad testing out a hermit but I need to know if that was the problem. But first I’ll have them check my water for copper before getting it. If the hermit lives. I’ll get a light and some coral. If he dies. 8 more weeks of winter
  25. I’m only basing my theory about the orange pods is because when I’m in Florida fishing we use live shrimp. And when the oxygen gets low in the bait bucket they start to turn orange. Well hopefully tomorrow that trite turns to trate thanks again Tom for your help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
