  1. Indeed, congrats. I'm excited to see one crazy Biocube!
  2. Looks really good! I'm a big fan of minimalist scapes.
  3. Just bought my ATI from Richard. Great guy. After things settle down, I'll be back out to his place for stuff for sure!
  4. I use a Utilitech Pro PAR30 15W LED 5600K from Lowes. A couple of WAMAS guys came by to pick up some chaeto and I think they can attest that this bulb grows it really well.
  5. I'm starting to see a lot of that sentiment on other threads too. I have not yet seen anyone's tank crash because of prior copper use on equipment. But I have seen a lot of scared people talking about the potential of said crash. This tank I'm setting up is not really that important. I might just set it up, put in a tiny kenya tree and see what happens.
  6. Yeah, ok... I thought if there is a foolproof way of doing it I would do it but if not, I'll get another heater. Thanks!
  7. I have a Neotherm heater in a hospital tank that has been treated with copper. Is there any safe way to clean the heater so I can use it in a frag tank? There are several threads that say an overnight bleach and then vinegar bath should be ok. I also have some cuprisorb and carbon. Any ideas?
  8. Yeah, but he wants it cap mounted, not side mounted.
  9. What is the diameter of the cap? Thinking out of the box, but what if you made a heavy duty pvc or acrylic scaffolding attached to the underside of the cap and mounted a regular float valve to it and put the tubing through the cap? Not sure if you can squeeze it in that space, though.
  10. I don't think a float valve in the side of one of the tanks will take much room up. There is a lot of space between the tanks since they are circular. A lot cheaper that $150!
  11. What kind of Nanos do you have? Fluval Spec Nanos, for example, have a flow "defect" in that there is a lower grate from which the return pump can draw water, therefore the upper grate never actually effectively skims the surface. The lower grate needs to be sealed off with silicone to force the upper grate to work.
  12. Unfortunately, the grooves are very shallow and the turning of the Swabbie blade causes the lid to pop out of the groove.
  13. Retrofit. I bought the CS1 kit and the Swabbie kit together.
  14. Great start. It looks like a stockman standpipe.
  15. I just attached my Swabbie kit to the top of my CS1 skimmer and then realized there is nothing in the kit to clamp the lid and Swabbie to the cup. The pictures online of Swabbies have a screw clamp system. Any ideas? I emailed Avast but just curious if anyone here has experience with this. Thanks.
  16. Yeah, I know what you mean about Apples and Oranges regarding the specifics, but I think some of the underpinnings of the thought process and decision making might be the same: Should I downsize? Is this too big? Wow, that dude's DB80 is nicer than my tank. What should I do? What does the wife think? I don't want to lose too much money on this process. Yada Yada. I don't mean to imply I know exactly what is going on in your head, but that type of stuff sure went on in mine OK, gonna go back into pseudo-lurking mode again!
  17. Isaac, well, you know how everyone is being supportive and stuff of your thinking of switching tanks? And remember when I was thinking of just setting up a 40 Breeder a year ago and you all convinced me to rebuild the 180 into a reef from a FW Cichlid? You guys didn't have any problem giving it to me straight, haha. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say stick with the 180! It's a darn beautiful setup and you've already spent so much time and it's really starting to show. Yeah, the DB80 seems greener, but so is the grass in the other guy's yard, lol.
  18. Very nice. I'm looking forward to seeing this grow. Look's like you are a Fast and Furious type of a guy, too.
  19. I'm sorry to hear this, too, but I think I might have a notion of where you are coming from.
