  1. Go for the regular Apex, for sure. Once you see what all can be done and the peace of mind it brings you will wish you had. The modules refer to the controllable outlet bars and things that can be integrated into the Apex system. These include pretty much anything you can think leak sensor, led light controllers, vortech controller, PH/ORP/salinity monitoring, wave makers, top off, and soooo much more.
  2. Thanks for the great advice! Brewski - can you send a lik to the kit you were referring to?
  3. What is the best way to remove coralline algae?
  4. Just purchased my dream tank, however it is my first acrylic tank. What advice would anyone who has kept a large acrylic tank? I want to do a sand bed but am concerned with scratches. Any other things to be careful of...? Thanks!
  5. Also I have heard the flat packs of PE Mysis contain even larger shrimp...
  6. PE Mysis is the larger variety. Hikari also sells plankton which is larger than the Mysis, but smaller than PE Mysis...
  7. Does anyone have much luck getting Tangs go eat black worms? Everyone but the Tangs go nuts for them...
  8. I have had mine fall off once due to a hungry turbo snail, the dry side barely moved since I secured it as shown in the manual. I use the solid portion of the wet side to ward the front glass which seems to slow down the flow from that side an keep the sand in place.
  9. Thanks for the heads up! The display wasn't even communicating with the control unit, but it is supposed to be delivered today.
  10. Does anyone have an extra Apex display that I could borrow? I recently purchased an Apex Lite and the display went blank when I updated the firmware. Now for some reason my laptop cannot communicate with it wirelessly or ethernet. I sent the display in for repair and just found out it will be another week before I get it back. I purchased a second EB8 and am excited to get the rest of my equipment on the Apex, but cannot program anything until communication is re-established. Thanks!
  11. I appreciate the input! I am probably going to go with the RA due to the DIY part of it. I have been taking some programming classes and should put that knowledge to use. I have been skimming thier forum and it seems like the RA can do everything I could ask and more.
  12. I am considering purchasing a controller for my tank. The Reef Angel seeems like an attractive solution as well as the Neptune system. I like the price and flexibility of the RA but was wondering if anyone in the area used these controllers and the pros and cons of the openended software. I am specifically interested in remote access, vortech control, wifi, battery back-up mode, and future expansion to include CA reactor. I do have some programming experience and good customer service is important. Thanks!
  13. I have successfully treated clowns on more one occasion using formalin. A FW dip is something you could do right away to buy some time to get treatment plans together, Brook kills quickly...
  14. I have 250 Watt DE bulbs you can borrow. I work in Centreville/Manassas. PM me if interested...
