  1. I’m tempted to just setup this rock in my fuge, predators and all, and just add diversity to my tank. Kinda like what you did with robs old sweater box of sump stuff. Then again, my rock is 7 YO at this stage, and established already.

     Yeah, March of 2011

I need to be better about updating photos here of it, it's a far cry from the last photo I took:

I keep trying to turn it into a proper frag tank, and at one stage I was just using it to cycle rock. Right now it's down to racks of zoas, an elegance, trumpets, and a court jester goby. There is a piece of SPS that is growing that I thought was dead on some rock, so I went ahead and got a doser that still needs to be set up.

Apparently my tropic marin part C doser lost prime and stopped dosing on January 8. The trident was telling me something was wrong, and it still took me a month to realize… life has been busy (had a baby in December).

    Congrats on the baby!

And is Part C Magnesium? 1250 is in the acceptable range I thought? Looks like you were keeping yours on the above higher then average end.

  4. I was also shocked with my par numbers when I rented, was very similar to what you're seeing up top (pushing 600 in some areas) and about 300 at the bottom of the tank. Although, my tank at the time was only 12" deep, you're working with a lot more depth and water, it's looking good!

  5. 5 years ago, I started feeding frozen exclusively. I’ve found everything has been happier, although it’s not great on my wallet.

i don’t test for phosphate, but when members get coral from me and test the water, I’ve been told phosphate is low, which is always a shock to me…

You probably remedied this already, but if not, I’ve had great success with KZ’s CyanoClean on the red cyano variety (when I had the green one, it kinda worked itself out).  It is supposedly a bacterial blend that aggressively outcompetes the cyano.

It took about a week before any visible changes could be observed, but after that, there were noticeable daily reductions.

    Good luck!

    almost gone! thanks though!

Oh, that's a nice one. Thanks. I guess this question may not be so much for you because it's in your frag tank but does it hide more than not? Ideally, I'd want a fish that will be out most of the time.

There are lots of hiding spots in the frag tank, which should be in quotations, because it's not really a frag tank.

At first it was very shy, now it's out and about. I just turned around and it's front and center.

OK, thanks.  Maybe I'll try swapping it over to the back wall to see what happens.

Do you remember what percent you ran the light at when it was in full growth mode and by itself?  I have a few smaller power supplies that I'm swapping in right now because the fans on them are quieter and I'm only running it at 20% just to make sure it's all running.

If you have x2 already, I'd just run them both. For me it was an aesthetic thing, I didn't want to have to put one on the front, but the tank demanded it.

I can probably go through and find my notes, but off the top of my head, at peak growth/intensity, I had it ramping up to 75% and then down again. But that's with each channel at a different intensity.
