  1. Yes Correct, this might help: That is an intercom box, Right by the fuse box. I plan on hanging my LED's from the ceiling, keeping the top open. x2 Shower rod test
  2. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to using sumps/pumps/and overall general reef tank setup. This is why I started with a Biocube, as everything I needed was tiny enough to keep simple. I'm not familiar with overflow boxes, or protien skimmers, and reactors. A lot of you are veterans in this saltwater world, and I'd really love some advice on how to setup this new cube. I would love explanations of what you suggest, and why. If you could go back and do it all over again, how would you do it? I'd like to start with what type of overflow you think I should go with, and why. Somebody recomended a Coast to Coast. Pictures are a bonus, I'm very visual. I will use this thread to help answer my questions as I go along, and I expect I will have many, I look forward to all the help and suggestions!
  3. So I was asking previously about trimming corals, and I got some information about working on them IN the tank. Maybe I've been doing it all wrong, and LPS generally seem to be hearty, but I've always laid out a sheet of plastic on my counter, and brought the rock and or corals to quickly work on top of it. I then either give it a minute or so for my glue to dry, or harden up a bit, and slowly put the rock back in my tank. While I continue to work with LPS, and plan on moving to SPS, is this a habit I should consider changing? Just curious.
  4. I just always wash my hands when I'm done playing in the tank. My plan is to keep them up in a corner until I get my 45 built. Is that still too small? ^If I put them in a 45 isolated, will that be a problem you think? I think it's very pretty, but of course would rather not have my tank overrun. I need to clear space for some of my other frags anyways. I'd rather not get poisioned! Like I mentioned above, I usually wash my hands really well after playing in the tank. I'm going to try and trim the anthelia back, and just put some peices in bags on Friday for those who care for any on Sat. As for the Palys, I've got quite a few in the tank. The ones on that rock I'll probably just chissle off the rock and put in another corner... bad idea? I don't want to be looking into a tank of just palys and anthelia 6 months down the road with Robs words echoing in my head. So I guess the question of the day is: Can I move them into my 45, or is that still a small tank for both species? While I'm thinking about it, can both the different peices of Frogspawn I have be grown next to each other? I know they also grow fast and sting things in the tank, as Jimlin warned me.
  5. Thanks man! I looked at so many nano's before I started, I've had a lot of aspirations. I want to show people that it's possible to have a great looking tank in such a small space!
  6. I've read about people that have done it with no troubles, and I'm sure it was with water that wasn't as clean as what you're going to probably have in Hawaii. Somebody will probably chime in with more knowledge than me, but I would say go for it.
  7. Sorry to hear this. Especially sad about the dogs as well. Like Jan said, if you know if theres anything anybody can do to help.

Btw, the tank's looking good. I like the cliff on the left!

Those the rics from the group buy? What was your order? I'll be picking mine up at the meeting, but would like to get an idea of how much space I should clear!
  10. Either way I like them, and i have enough of the Xenia about!
  11. I'll bring some your way, They're even growing on shells in the corner of my tank. Thanks, good to know! Those Zoas in the front have become one of my favorites in there. They have doubled in size, and always hearty. Will the Xenia "choke" them out?
  12. Yep, but I posted a bad picture with an even worse explanation. This should better show the Xenia expanding into the zoas.
  13. Not yet, in a 14 gallon biocube atm.
  14. I can move it, but it's a nice piece where it is now. It's growing fast. I can isolate it in my 45 when I get it setup, but will have to maybe trim in the meantime. It's creeping up in front of the ricordea and headed downward, can I just peel those parts off the rock? Do I cut it off, or back? Never "trimmed" a coral before.
  15. I have some Xenia (I believe) that is taking over a rock, and growing into/onto other corals in it's wake. how do I handle this?
  16. I mentioned at Pristine Aquarium that I had joined WAMAS, and the guy behind the counter readily gave me a discount (he TOLD me about my WAMAS discounts!) After about a month of getting a discount, a new guy looked at me like I was stupid. I let him know that I had been recieving it, and he checked with the manager who OK'd it. He also said the owner was pretty serious about seeing the cards (I had switched to a billfold that week, so I showed him my payment e-mail from WAMAS. Still only saved me something like $2.00 in the end. Once I get my RO/DI I plan to push most of my business through our supportive vendors, but it's nice to know that local non sponsoring vendor will honor and aknowledge a card they don't have ta'.
  17. Hand me down, don't even know if it's complete. Here is a crappy picture of it: That sounds great, if it's needed. It was bought from a forum member, and I think he drilled it personaly, so I can find out. I'm going to start looking into this. Get me a little bit closer to what I'm looking for. Haha, just let me know man. I know you've got a lot on your plate right now, family first! Plus you've got that awesome showcase tank, which is still a faster build than this one will probably be. Thanks! Still dont see that third hole...
  18. Found this, very helpful: http://www.melevsreef.com/what_sump.html
  19. I think it helps. I think the problem is I don't have an idea on what I'm using for an overflow yet. I would venture to say atm that my skimmer is too big. I have never used a skimmer either, so this is all new territory to me. On 45 gallons is there a recomended skimmer size/brand? A recomended overflow brand/size?
  20. I'd rather not do any drilling. I'd really like to see examples of what we're talking about. I'd like to keep it simple and effective.
