  1. Went there this afternoon. Ended up buying a small orange ric, and some supplies from them. Prices seem reasonable. They are still in the process of getting all the tanks filled that had freshwater fish in them with saltwater fish. Staff seems friendly, and busy getting the tanks changed over.
  2. Jan - Any updates to your pico? Looking for inspiration with mine!
  3. Great. I'll take the drive up tomorrow at some point and report back here.
  4. Has anyone been there? Looks like they opened over the summer.
  5. My tank had live rock and live sand to help the cycle while using Stability. I put hermits in two days after the tank was up and had no losses. I didn't start putting in corals for a couple weeks after the tank was up just to be safe.
  6. I used Seachem's Stability to quick start cycle mine. Worked well. No deaths.
  7. More and more brown algae showing up on the glass. Not too much on the sand or live rock yet. I think the hermit crabs are eating at it. Also seeing a lot of copepods on the glass where the brown algae is. I take it the copepod population and brown algae will settle down over time?
  8. Got some frogspawn from fellow WAMAS member Mr. Chalice yesterday. Also starting to see some brown algae (diatoms) on the glass. It removes easily with the mag float.
  9. Thanks! The goby seems to be eating up any little copepods that fly by him. He just sits and waits in that corner for something to come along.
  10. Figured I would start a new thread in the nano section. Picked up a clown goby yesterday, and my GSP has finally started to come out. Will probably get some small frogspawn to put in there today. Weekly 50% water changes. Currently have - Zoas 1 Clown goby Green Star Polyps 4 blue legged hermit crabs (they are funny to watch when it comes to feeding time) Mini brittle star (somewhere in there) PH 8.1 Temp 79 SG 1.025 Nitrate 2ppm
  11. They are having a sale this weekend on corals. Buy 2 get one free. They just got some new ones in, and they all look healthy to me. Their fish selection is rather limited though. There is also a Valpak coupon (the ones you get in the mail) for $5.00 off your purchase of $15.00 or more on fish, inverts, and corals.
  12. Happy Thanksgiving all, Currently just have the stock fluval spec foam pad in the filter box of my pico along with a bag of purigen. Is this the best route to go with a pico reef, or should I take out the foam pad and load up the filter box with more purigen? Kind of wondering if the filter foam does anything in a reef tank when you have live rock and live sand as your "filters"....
  13. Thanks for the quick replies! Tank must be doing well if I am finding these guys
  14. Woke up this morning to find this on my mag float. It looks like a starfish, but with one long tentacle? Must have hitched a ride on the live rock, or the GSP (It was dipped before I put it in). Is it safe to keep with coral, or should I get it out of the tank?
  15. Thanks for all your input. I'll just put them on for an hour after the lights go out. Would it hurt, or help to have them on at the same time as the 14K LEDs during the day?
  16. No fish. Just a small frag of green star polyps, and 4 hermit crabs. Tank is still fairly new.
  17. This is what I have for lighting - http://innovative-marine.com/skkye-light/clamp-8-watt-black.html Spec sheet says 4 x 1/2Watt LED Moon lights This is on a small nano Fluval Spec 2 gallon. They are bright that's for sure.
  18. Hey all, Quick question regarding moon lights - What does everyone do regarding duration? Leave on 24/7? Only specific hours of the night? Thx!
  19. Since zoas seem to be very hardy, and the choice for beginners ill probably go with them first. As for a fish... maybe. The tank is very small and I don't want to overload the tank. Maybe down the road ill put a small clown goby in there. As far as zoas go... What do you feed them, and how often?
  20. Already feeding them some HBH crab bites every other day. Thanks for the welcome!
  21. Hello all, First time poster here, and just joined WAMAS. Always have had freshwater planted tanks, and I needed a new challenge. So I started my first saltwater tank in a Fluval Spec 2 back on Nov 4th. Used live rock and live sand to start the cycle. It literally cycled in just a few short days, and I recently added 4 dwarf blue legged hermit crabs last weekend. All seems to be going well so far! Goals for the tank are to turn it into a small pico reef. Some hardy beginner corals, and maybe a small goby down the road. Here is what is in it now - Fluval Spec 2.5 gallon Stock pump 40gph - Using Purigen and filter pad that came with the Spec Hydor 25 watt Heater - Temp at 79F Using Instant Ocean for salt - Salinity at 1.025 measured with refractometer Innovative Marine Skkye LED 4 Watt. Lights on 10 hours a day (Lights will be upgraded to the 8 watt version shortly) 1.5lb of Fiji Live Rock from LFS Live sand from LFS - I forget the brand Using RO/DI water 50% weekly water changes Pics!
