  1. Hmmm.... I have a small RBTA on the other side if the tank that the Picassos won't even look at... Maybe I could coax the skunks to move... Fingers crossed.
  2. The female Picasso is chasing the skunks.
  3. So... I have a pair of Picasso clowns that love anemones... Especially Sebaes. A few weeks ago their Sebae committed suicide in my MP40. Watching them swim around looking for a home was sad, so once the tank was ready, I went out and bought them a nice new shiny Ritteri anemone. The female Picasso swam up to it and checked it out, but didn't want anything to do with it. Instead they hosted my Elegance coral. That was two weeks ago. Yesterday, I bought two pink skunk clowns for the Ritteri. They immediately took to the lonely Ritteri and were happy as can be for about 18hours. Now the jelous Picassos are moving in on their territory and trying to take over the Ritteri.
  4. If you really do want a frag... Come by and show me how to frag it. I would be happy to share the cabbage for some knowledge.
  5. Beautiful! I agree with Incredible Corals. Inspiring!
  6. Very cool.
  7. Kool. Thanks. I think I will let them sort it out.
  8. My cabbage coral has stretched out to sun itself... Buy has crossed over into the orange plate's territory. Should I move the orange plate? Will they fight?
  9. Thank you for the answer. I have had a few skimmers, but this is my first brand new one. I read somewhere it took 8 days for this particular skimmer to break in... But mine seems to be functioning pretty well right now... but if it is not yet broken in, and it gets better than this... I will shout Reef Octopus praises from the rooftops.
  10. How long does it usually take for a skimmer to get "broken in"? And what exactly am I looking for?
  11. After only 8 hours of running.
  12. Installed the new skimmer tonight... I had to modify my PVC plumbing and relocate my mangroves... But I think the end result looks cleaner. This thing runs pretty dang quiet!! Way quieter than the PSK-2500 on the old SWC. The other side of the sump.
  13. Sure will. I love Salty Supply... Free 2 day shipping to VA. I have read that the SRO skimmers take about a week to break in ... But when it starts pulling the goo out I will take some pics. On a different note... After I pulled the CS2 out of the sump, I put my old SWC back in. The SWC had been in the garage for a month and as soon as I turned it on, it started taking the goo the CS2 couldn't get out of the water. It's gonna be hard to retire the ol' faithful SWC... But I'm pretty excited to get the SRO.
  14. After speaking with Jeremy at Coralvue (reef octopus tech support) I decided to go with a smaller skimmer. The SRO 5000 was overkill for my 180gal, he said the SRO 3000int would be the perfect skimmer for my tank. So I called Chris at salty supply and bought it. I will have it before the weekend.
  15. Had no idea palys were poisonous. Great read... Thanks for the link Marc Weaver!
  16. Thanks for the post... I think I will go with the SRO 5000 SSS. Do you guys think the "SSS" version will work as well as your INT SROs'?http://www.fragtasticreef.com/SRO-5000SSS-Super-Reef-Octopus-5000-Space-Saver-Skimmer-SRO-5000SSS.htm?categoryId=90
  17. wow
  18. I am almost sold on the SRO 5000 sss. Its small enough for my sump... and will handle way more than what my tank can throw at it.
  19. I didn't have very good luck with the CS2 that I had for about a month. I just sold it yesterday, and am a little apprehensive about jumping right back on the Avast bandwagon. Does anyone have any experience with the CS3?
  20. wow... a lot of good info in that thread... will be reading this for the next couple of hours... but DANG!! those ppl gripe and argue a lot!! I don't read many forums... but reading the stuff on reefcentral makes me appreciate you guys a heck of a lot more!! Thanks WAMAS for being awesome.
  21. I have enough vertical clearance to house a skimmer that tall... but getting it into the sump is a different story. My last skimmer was 28" tall with the swabbie attached ... and I had plenty of room to work... but I had to take it apart to get it in the sump. it doesn't look like that one comes appart. not sure if it would fit. What do you guys think about this one? http://www.aquacave.com/Reef-Octopus-SUPER-SRO-5000SSS-In-Sump-Protein-Skimmer-P2588.aspx
  22. thats a pretty big problem... wow.
  23. Is this one really worth the $? I would like to spend much less... but I didn't want price to get in the way of quality.
  24. I am sure this question has been asked many times before, but I need you folks to help me decide. I know lots of you have been in the hobby a lot longer than I have, and with that "time on the pond" you have learned what you like and what you don't like about items... I need your experienced help placing an order. I am looking to buy a new skimmer in the next day or two. I am currently using my old SWC, which is actually doing a good job, but is old and unreliable. I would like to run a new skimmer and have the SWC as an emergency backup. I have a large area in the sump, so space isn't an issue... and my total water volume is about 220. I would like to have a skimmer that could handle at least 300gal. My max budget is about $800. What is the best skimmer I can get for my tank under $800?
