  1. thanx for all the replies , I believe that i will try ron's solution of epoxy putty. My return pump is not strong enough for my overflow(I have to cut-back on the water entering the sump with a valve on the drain line.) so a valve on the return pump wont help me at least until i decide to replace the return pump with a more adequate one.
  2. I think i would have to show it too you ... a picture wont do it , I would be willing, I live in bristow?
  3. I bought a reef ready tank that came with the plumbing for the overflow, the supply had a anti-siphon hole drilled into the bottom of the elbow. It is ok when i can keep the water level in the overflow above the hole, but when it is below the hole the water shoots out and makes a lot of noise.(the oscillation makes it worse) I have a friend that has the same basic system , but without the hole(he just makes sure one of the nozzles is very close to if not above the water line in DT that way it breaks the siphon. How can I solve this, I had to silicone the plumbling in my overflow to feel safe. I have tried adjusting the valvle that controls the water returning to my sump(it works so-so) ? eddie
  4. I am not sure the exact pump, it is about like an eheim though.
  5. can you plug a circulation pump into a non-relay outlet? it says in the manual 'typical 120vac such as chillers heaters'
  6. it sounds like from their description that they use a diffrent type of media, is that true, if so is it expensive?,is it easy to get?
  7. I hava read many threads on line saying they are not , but I have friends that have had them for long periods of time(>3 mos). My daughter wants me too get one eventually but I am hesitant because I dont want it to starve to death after a period of time in my tank.
  8. In the sticky article on FYI/FAQ they talk about distilled white vinegar added to Kalkwasser, they speak of the many benefits of this in that article. Is this practice still recommended or are there better methods now? I am guessing the C02 issue would be solved by a calcium reactor but how bout the other benefits? here is a link to article?(linked in the Kalkwaseer pinned post in fyi/faq) http://www.reefs.org/forums/topic1803.html
  9. My last tank was a 180 gallon built into the wall of my previous house, when we moved i had to get rid of it. I have started a much more manageable 90 gallon this time. My intention is to make a reef tank and frag some. Here is my question based upon some reading on the web....I have run DSB's with little trouble in the past, but none of them for more than 4yrs or so..... I was planning on running a remote one in the 45gallon refugium of my 90 gallon tank, my purpose was too culture copepods ,etc more so than the nitrate reduction. how much dry rock should i purchase, so far i have 50lbs of dry-rock? I was going to add a piece or two of live rock. Does anyone see a issue with having a dsb in the refugium?
