  1. lol So I think I figured out an alternative to the restrictor valve, I just took the waste water line and looped it into a knot to get the same flow your were talking about Chad! I got it restricted to 60psi. Pretty cheap fix
  2. I'm located in like the Del Ray area. Anybody wanna let me borrow their tds meter for a sec?
  3. no tds meter, will get one soon though
  4. Yeah I just read something about letting new mixed water aerate for 24 hrs, I'll try that this time. Yeah I understand about the DI resin being exhausted, but I just bought a new cartridge today, I don't see why the whole thing would be tan/pinkish
  5. This is the unit I recently purchased. I haven't been able to find any information other then they stop selling this brand. Well, when I was purchasing this unit, I was told to hook it up a certain way. Last night I hooked up it as instructed and it produced some murky water and I was only get 20 psi on the meter. I did a water change last night and this morning saw that all my fish have ich now (bad water?). Today I went to go purchase new filters for it and as I was unhooking the canisters I realized that I was instructed wrong. Basically where the dirty water comes out I hooked it up to the sink so I was all backwards, anyway I put in the new filters and wired it correctly this time, and now I'm getting 50psi and Hopefully some clean water! I'm going to do a water change tonight hopefully with clean water to help my fishies out. Also I'm confused my new DI resin cartridge was black and after running it for 3 hours now and the whole canister is like a tanish/pink color, this doesn't seem right. Here is what my ro/di looks like http://www.3reef.com/forums/attachments/filters-pumps-etc/7368d1193793278-help-ro-di-plumbing-aquarium-010.jpg
  6. Okay now that I have my new ro/di and skimmer, anyone wanna come over to make sure I got these things working right? In the Del Ray area
  7. okay so I have the choice to pick up the eshopps from zygot2k. Do ya'll recomend this over the aqua euro?
  8. yes I saw that skimmer, I sent Zygote2k a pm but I think someone might have beat me too it! also I saw an ro/di unit HowardofNova is trying to sell, so hopefully if I get both of these bad boys, and I think I'll be set on fish equipment for a while.
  9. so I've been on Marinedepot.com and they're selling an AquaEuro Classic 135 protein skimmer with needle wheel pump and bubble plate (http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?idproduct=ED3115&idCartRow=22641598&isKit=0 ) I was thinking about ordering this bad boy, does anyone have any idea of how well this thing works or if its a good investment for my 92 gallon corner tank w/ 20gallon sump
  10. I'm kinda wondering the same thing! I want to go as well this Saturday. I'm located in Alexandria so anyone in the area up for car pooling this Saturday?
  11. oh know!! lol its okay no worries, I'll think I'll wait for the next cheap ro/di unit anyone wants to sell on the forum and also a skimmer rated up to I guess 150 gallons for my tank.
  12. I'll gladly take it Tony D, btw I have mushroom thing I told you about. I'm not sure if its a ricordia or just another mushroom. Its got a purplish pink body and the bubbles on them are beautiful neon green. Heres a pic from my phone of the mushroom, its the biggest one on top of the rock, for the past week it moved up to that rock and has detached it's foot and its barely hanging on to the rock with the last small mushroom its parting from. It actually came withe the LR that was given to me when I first began my tank in January. It has finally given me four smaller mushrooms. So if you're still interested I can give you this thing lol
  13. You're absolutely right. Luckily I got my purple tang for free. I've checked these ro/di units that run about $200-$300 for a 100-200 gpd unit and with proper psi i'll get at most 5-7 gallons an hr? that seems like way too much time to sit and wait for buckets to fill up, plus I don't have room to setup an ro/di. Just seems tooo complicated, I think i'll try the Faucet Pur filter (collegeman)
  14. well when I first started my tank it cycled nicely, everything was great. I was using ro/di water until it became a hassle to and from my lfs, so I started to use regular tap water. Even everything then was fine my parameter was almost flawless with the acception of small amount of nitrates. I left for for china then when I came back, thing were dead and the water parameters were just off. maybe my tank crashed? but now things are doing a lot better now that i did that 60 gallon water change. You're right about being able to produce clean water before getting into the hobby, but there are a lot of other people who use regular tap water and get decent results, so I'll take this route till I can afford an ro/di unit hey tony thanks I can't wait till I get one of your mushrooms!
  15. I believe I have a cpr bak pak skimmer, so I'm guessing not so big?
  16. Just ran some test, 8.2 ph 0 ppm ammonia 0.25 ppm nitrite 20 ppm nitrate This reading was a lot better than last nights after the I completed the water change. weird
  17. btw i added this stuff called Herbatana and it was suppose to be way better than Gordom lab stuff because it was organic, and it killed sooo many of my fish and coral, both claiming to be reef safe. I'm kinda hesitant on it :(
  18. Yes I have a 20 gallon sump tank with just a filter sock and the pumps. In my main tank I already have about 3.5inches of sand so I believe I have a pretty deep sand bed. I'm located in Alexandria in the Del Ray area. Coral hind, I tested the clean water after adding the Prime. Its reading 40-80 on nitrates after adding it to the fish tank. i did a test after each water change and the readings on nitrate didn't change!!! I have a few serpant starfish, sandsifting starfish, goby, gold stripe maroon clownfish, pacific sailfin tang, purple tang, pwder brown, Green Wellso, leather toadstool, ricordia, crocea clam, acans, polys, zoos, hammer spawn, frog spawn, favia, RBTA and a bubble coral. This is what's in my tank right now and all of them have looked okay. wellso looks more inflated then normal. I used instant ocean for my tank
  19. so I just completed a total of 60 gallons in water changes today, nitrates are still the same and pretty high! :(
  20. Yes I believe the usual amount, lol but thats trusting a friends word. He just said fish started dying off and left them in there. so that may be the problem with the nitrates, but i can't get it to go down!!! maybe i just need to keep doin these 15 gallon water changes every week?
  21. well I was away in China for a month and a friend didn't really take care of my tank. He did zero water changes. Prior to me leaving i did a 15 gallon water change every week with tap water that i treat with Prime (can't afford ro/di yet) but everything was fine then. I test my clean water and its zeros out on all parameters. Test kits is about 3 months old. I do not have a phosphate test kit. Mr corals, goby, gold stripe maroon clown, purple tang, pacific tang seem to be doing really well and not so much my powder brown ( small ich ) and my clam has a slightly larger hole for lack of term.
  22. So last week I did two 15 gallon water changes for my 92 gallon corner tank because my nitrates were too high and I ran a test today and it's still pretty high!!! I'm about to do another 15 gallon water change, hopefully this can bring it down just a little bit. This doesn't seem right, any ideas?
  23. Thanks for your 2 cents, and yes a hospital tank probably would have been better, unfortunately I don't have money to set one up. I wouldn't have tried this method if it did kill off everything. The person who recommended this medicine works at an aquarium store and he said he puts that stuff in all the time when the new fish, corals, and invertebrates come in. Said something about maracyn contains a mild dose of antibiotics. Does not contain any copper or anything harmful to fish, coral, invertebrates, its just antibiotics lol. check it out sometime
  24. okay heres the update. I treated my whole tank (coral, invertebrates included) with maracyn. It made my tank all yellow but after treating the tank for 4 days, thats white ulcer looking thing fell right off my clownfishes belly and healing good. now for a water change pretty soon!
  25. Someone mentioned that I should dip my clownfish in spring water for a minute or two, anybody know of this technique?
