  1. but then what is the di bypass?
  2. I don't understand what the difference in the RO-only and the DI bypass are? Does the RO only skip the carbon (And if so why would you want to do that?)?
  3. I got a Typhoon III RO/DI system from these guys and I love it!
  4. No, I haven't had these problems, but I haven't been adding much food to the system. Until now I only had a single ocellaris and I fed him pretty much a couple of pellets or flakes at a time that he would eat as soon as they hit the water.. Also, I had a powerhead on the side of the tank that would reach behind the rockwork but I was getting small spots of diatoms popup consistently in one area so I figured these were dead areas and re-arranged my flow. Now I feel like behind the rocks is a dead spot.. it just seems like it is near impossible to hit everything without having my display glass coated in powerheads
  5. Sorry for jumping to assumptions about your sex! Basically, I am just trying to understand why people are recommending little rock in nano tank. My understanding has been that the less rock, the less bio filtration, and I am wondering if I am wrong or if there is something I am missing. I am assuming that the Japanese tanks with no rock basically are running their water through a big sump with lots of rock/bio filtration, something you would not have.
  6. Currently I have my powerhead and pump return from the back of the tank pushing the water toward the front.. usually food that hits the bottom ends up getting pushed to the front of the tank where it swirls around for a while but eventually it circles around and settles behind the rocks (under the powerheads/return, out of the flow). The powerhead is right below the overflow taking the water out. Is this ok? I guess I am worried that I am going to get a buildup of uneaten food and other detritus that I won't be able to see because it is caught up in the rockwork. is there a specific pattern I should be aiming for as far as the flow goes?
  7. i am assuming they have a sump with bio filtration of some sort? I am assuming he isn't adding a significantly sized refugium to his office nano?
  8. I'm in the same boat. I just bought a Canon G9. It is the fixed lens one with all the options of the SLR. I am lost.. :( I am wondering if I should just take it back and get an ultracompact..
  9. so why not go no rock at all? more surface area = more bacteria, fauna, etc, right?
  10. well, you can add Forumla 2 cubes, thawed mysis, and live blackworms to the list.. this guy just doesn't seem to be eating..
  11. I had a small frag of GSP and I set it on a piece of rock.. came back a week later and it was already matting over the rock.. Now I can't get rid of the crap! I have just been stabbing the polyps with my exacto knife to kill them, and trying to scrape the mat up, but they just keep popping up..
  12. Here's my 12G aquapod tank, about a month ago. It has alot more corals now, since I have joined WAMAS And I gotta disagree with the "less rock" thing. It might make scaping and coral placement easier, but these little tanks are unstable, and the more rock, the easier it will handle new bioload when you add stock..
  13. why did you injur yourself? i would be afraid the teeth on the saw blade would crack the plastic? and yes, i did wear safety glasses, but the rest of my was feeling quite vulnerable.. i don't know if i want half of one of those cuttoff discs lodged in, say, my neck
  14. most people silicone a baffle in there. I am going to try to just use one side of the media basket popped in there. Then use the bottom grating of the media basket to cover the return so everything doesn't fall back out.
  15. did you have trouble feeding originally? By DT's do you mean this: http://www.dtplankton.com/ ? Do you culture your own brine shrimp?
  16. ok I bought a black and decker ripoff of the dremel. Seemed to do the trick just fine. Ran it on medium with the cutting wheel. I was amazed how well it worked. The only downside was that I cracked the plastic a bit since my slit wasn't quite big enough and being lazy I tried to force it. oh well, nothing superglue can't fix i broke one of the cutting wheels just trying to get it on the saw - I am a bit nervouse that if it breaks while I am cutting that I will suffer some serious pain.. here is another link that seems good: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...mp;pagenumber=1
  17. not sure what you mean? If the power goes out, the intake will stop, which will stop filling the filter box, which means that it would just sit still in there and not overflow into the tank anymore. This wasn't my idea I saw this link out there but they don't tell how they cut the lid: http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=23735 Anyway, I think there would be less cutting on the 24g since the filter will actually fit over bins 2 & 3.
  18. Well, I guess I will just wait it out. I just hope my tank doesn't have a huge algae outbreak with all this food I am unsucessfully feeding I haven't seen him nibbling at anything yet but maybe I make him nervous. I looked locally for a couple of months but nobody seemed to be able to get them in. I ended up getting one through liveaquaria.com. I got on the in-stock notification a few times but kept missing it. They seem to send out a notification every Wednesday morning. I managed to get to the site and order one but got an email that night saying that the fish was backordered. It took about two more weeks for them to ship one to me but I finally got one! Here's a (bad) pic I snapped:
  19. I want to cut up a large aquaclear filter to make a HOB fuge for my 12gaquapod. Not sure what it is made from? Acrylic? It doesn't fit on the back of my aquapod due to the filter bins so I was going to cut one slit between the intake and the return so it would fit over the bin divider. I was also going to cut a hole in the lid for a light (which I don't actually have yet - I guess it would be square). So no, it doesn't have to be neat. I just don't want it to crack. Thank you!
  20. Which type of dremel bit should I use for plastic cutting? Thanks!
  21. I thought these fish were herbivores? And I can feed blackworms to marine fish?
  22. I know a bunch of you have Tailspot Blennies. I just got mine a couple of days ago. He doesn't eat. I have tried herbivore flakes, nori on a clip, and crushed up nori. It can float right past his face and he doesn't seem to recognize anything as food. What do you guys feed and how? thanks!
  23. You told me that you were going to hold the best big rics for me since I paid first, a rainbow one and a blue one. Originally I was going to get a rainbow and a green and you told me for 5 extra dollars you would give me a nice blue one instead of the green! And then you told me you had sold them and shipped something different. If you posted a bunch of pictures on your thread of fragged off ric polyps why would I think that it wasn't WYSIWYG? Not to mention you state that you have rainbow, blue and green, w/ multiple mouths, and you said nothing about "white" rics.. I made it clear in my post that you shipped me two rics and one was acceptable (though small, not the "multiple mouths" that you claimed) and the other wasn't. I did take two pictures. I took one that was a clear view of the top and one where you could see the coloring on the underside, as I thought this may important in deciding if it was bleached. I can't see from our PMs that we discussed any conditions of shipping guarantee but I think those usually refer to live arrival, not me paying for one thing and you shipping another! I can find absolutely no information on white and gray being a natural color morph. The only thing I can tell is that you promised me one thing and then tried to pass off a bleached coral on me since you already had my money.
  24. I sent a pic of the ric to the seller and he said he had it for a long time and that is how it always looked, that it was just a rare color morph and it was supposed to look like that. So I don't think this is something caused by shipping that will resolve itself since he seemed to think this was how it has always looked, plus one of the rics shipped just fine. Sorry for the potty mouth, I don't mean to offend anyone! Yeah I don't mean to make a big deal out of it on the forum but I figured people here would have some good advice.
  25. I purchased 2 rics from a member here. Being in Frederick I am a good hike from most of you folks and we were unable to find a time that worked for both of us for pickup. A decision was made to have the corals shipped. The seller told me to paypal ASAP so that he could hold the rics for me before people came for pickup, which I did. The next day however, the seller said that a buyer the night before had wanted my rics and he had sold them to the person, but that he had shipped out to me two rics that he was planning to keep and were much better than the originals he was originally going to ship to me. The problem was, when the rics arrived, I got what I believe to be one acceptable ric and one bleached out ric. The seller insists that he sent me a "rare color morph". I feel the cost of the ric and half of the shipping should be refunded to me. I told the seller that I would go buy heatpacks, etc. and ship the ric back to him if he paid the fedex ground actual cost. Here are pics of the ric.. is it bleached out? or a rare color morph? And assuming I am right, do you feel the seller should be obligated to refund money, especially considering he sent something different than we agreed upon? Thanks for the input. I hope I don't appear to be a huge jerk but I don't appreciate being screwed over either.
