  1. I just glued mine to a piece of rock. Kept it out of the water for about 30-45 seconds until I thought the glue had set a little, then put it back in the water. Since learned that it's not a good idea to glue "flesh", but it stuck and the coral is doing great.
  2. Not only are excusions expensive, but they often bring you to places that are convenient to them - not places that are great for snorkeling. The taxi is a great idea! And having a mask that fits you and doesn't leak makes all the difference in the world.....
  3. Mine eat frozen and live brine shrimp, and will actually nibble on the larger mysis. I've heard that you can get frozen mysis in cubes that are smaller.....
  4. I agree with Brian - get certified before you go! The snorkeling gives you a taste but believe me, they are not taking you to the primo locations. With the sub you get out onto the actual reefs, but can't get close enough to see the little stuff.
  5. Forrest - I have a huge colt coral that you can have if you're interested.
  6. I bought "used" LR from a couple of different tank breakdowns, and I'm so glad that I did! It came complete with coralline, polyps, zoas, mushrooms, sponge, critters..... So my tank was "alive" from day one, and there really was no discernable cycle at all.
  7. Martin - Let me know if you need frags back. Sorry to hear about the die-off! Hope the fish made it ok?
  8. Rik - I'd like to pick up: 5-ish zoa frag Tubbs Blue $25 (beautiful!) 1" multi branch red table $15 Green ORA birdsnest $10
  9. I've had mixed results as far as pricing goes. I bought my lights from them about a month back and paid a competitive price for them with a lot of help from the owner. I also, however, paid about $20 more for a copperband than what BRK is currently charging. Good news, though, is that it's a very healthy fish and it began eating as soon as it hit my tank.
  10. Chris - Red and orange chalice, please!
  11. Don't quote me, but I think that Wally's is something like $.99 per gallon for RO and $1.39 per gallon for saltwater. Something like that.....
  12. I never could eat seafood, though even more now that I dive and have the tank. I watch my little conch's antics and think "how could somebody EAT such a funny little guy?" (well, his cousin, anyway...) I dove once with a friend and asked her about the lobsters. All I could think about was the multitude of their colors. Her response was all that she could think about was "Hmmmm - butter.........!"
  13. How about cocoworms? Seems like they're similar enough to featherdusters to also tempt copperbands?
  14. I put my 7 gallon in a plastic tub when I fill it, and have had it overflow into the tub several times already. Did forget to stick the wastewater tube down the drain one day. It slid off the counter and pointed down behind the dishwasher. After an hour or so of running my basement ceiling and floor were soaked. :(
  15. I read a posting on another forum by somebody who had a lot of success with Haliclona. All of the sponges I've researched said that they require supplemental feeding, fairly standard parameters, and don't expose them to air. His did great in his tank. He tried fragging it (successfully), put a frag in a new tank and only feed it about once a month, and while it didn't grow as fast as before he noted that it did better than the zoa he also had in the tank.
  16. Yea, I have some of that as well. Some is hidden under the star polyps, but the tentacles are hard to miss. I also have some rock covered in yellow sponge. I've heard that it's a good filter, but wasn't sure if they tended to die off easily, took over tanks, etc.
  17. Has anybody ever deliberately added a sponge to their tank? BZA has a nice looking one (not available now, but on their product list) and it looks like it'd be a nice future addition to my tank, but I don't want to even consider it if there are some hefty cons associated with adding one.
  18. Now THAT's more scientific than a cereal bowl!
  19. On the other hand (so to speak) every time my hands go in the tank my fire shrimp flies over to clean me! I must really need a manicure or something.....
  20. Yea, I was just hoping that somebody ELSE had kept track and could just pass on the knowledge.... I think I'll try the slightly above/overflowing method and see how close that gets me. Thanks!
  21. I've got a good refractometer. I'm looking for a measure to use that will get me close when I do check it (like the overflowing cup ).
  22. Before I move to the trial and error method, does anybody else mix to 1.025 on a regular basis, and if so, how much IO do you add? It's 1/2 cup per gallon to get 1.022, just not sure whether to add 1 tsp, 2 tsp..... to get 1.025.
  23. Wow, so it sounds like everybody does their own thing (should have known! ). I'll probably try the 24/7 unless I feel motivated enough to figure out moon cycles!
  24. I'm figuring out how I want to set the timers on my Outer Orbit light. It has both blue and white lunars, each with a separate control. I'd love to hear how those of you who have these have set them up - white to follow the full moon cycle and blue on every evening? Blue always on or just at night?
