Hello, I am going to be picking up a 6 stage 75 gpd filter guy RO/DI in a few weeks. I have 3 saltwater tanks that would be great to hook in to this. I have 1 on the top floor of the house and 2 in the basement. On the top floor I have a 55 gallon. In the basement I have a 90 gallon fish only and a 180 gallon reef. I would like to set the RO/DI up somewhere in the house and then have power heads and tubes ran to each tank. Then when I want to fill up a tank I will just plug in the power head for that tank. My first question is whether or not this is possible and if this is the best plan. Second I am trying to figure out the placement of the RO/DI and holding container. If it is set up in the basement, is there a pump that will pump water two floors up? If it is on the top floor, will it syphon the tub in to the basement when I turn the power head off? Third, is there a dafe way to do an auto top off directly in to the 55 and 90 and then in to the sump of the 180? Thanks so much.

You can delete this. I didn't realize that there is pretty much the EXACT same post on New to the hobby. EXACT. http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15272 Sorry and Thanks.

Would it work to put 1 or 2 small pieces of live rock and a pair of tiny ocellaris clowns? Would a small BTA be ok in there or no way?

Right now I have a 180 reef set up with a sump and mag 24. I also have an empty 7 gallon eclipse hex and wanted to know if I could plumb the 7 gallon in to my other system and have several clowns, anemone's, a few small pieces of live rock. I planned to just drill the back of the eclipse and run an overflow to the 180's sump and then just split off the return line from the mag 24 back to the nano. Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks so much.

Would it be better to get an anenome for the Tomato that I have or will he not likely live in it? Is there a certain kind of anenome that he will most likely take to?

I currently have a 1 1/2" tomato clown who has been the only clown in my 180 since it has been set up. I want to get an anenome and one or several clowns for it. Can I do this or will the clowns fight.

I recently bought live rock from another member and one of the pieces had a coral on it that I am not sure what it is. Today when I was aquascaping my tank, another rock fell on it and broke off several pieces. The broken pieces are in the pictures below. Can I glue these broken pieces on to another rock and essentually frag these? Is there anything else I have to know or anything special I have to do or just glue them on? Can anyone tell me what type of coral this is? Is it an LPS or SPS? What is the specific name or nickname? Once I know what it is and I can frag it then I can look up how to care for it.

I'd love to know too. Any ideas from anyone?

My Tang is dead.

I took him to the fish store and they told me that he looks like he might have been burned or stung by something. I'm not sure what would do that but he said that's what the brown marks look like. They said he might have a bacterial infection so they gave me some medicine (Maracyn Plus). I have in a 5 gallon bucket for right now. Anyone have any ideas? Could a Pulsing Xenia sting a Tang? He's breathing fast and heavy. His fins were slightly beat up too. His tank mates are: 1 Bar goby 2 Lawnmower Blennies 1 Tomato Clown 4 small green chromis' peppermint Shrimp Snails brissle worms emerald crabs hermit crabs Pulsing xenia buttons zoas feather dusters I think that's about it. I'd appreciate any ideas.

I have about 12 fish in a 180 gallon tank. All of them are 2" or smaller. I checked all the levels the other day and they all seamed fine. PH 8.4 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Ammonia 0. The specific gravity is high though at 1.026 or 1.027. Should I tank out some salt water and replace with fresh water? This morning my yellow Tang is laying on his side on the bottom of the tank. I thought he was dead so I tried to pull him out when he started moving again. Not much but he was alive. I left him in the net and hooked it over the side so he wouldn't get lost in the 200 lbs of LR. He is still not really moving . The only thing I notice about his appearance is that he is pale and looks like he has a small brown spot on his side, no white spots. I checked the levels again and they are still the same. I've had him for a few months with no problems. WHAT CAN I DO? Why is he sick and the rest of the fish seem fine?

Thanks so much. That's a great explanation.

Interested in the skimmer. Is it still available? Does it have it's own pump?

I'm not sure what a Saphire tank is and I didn't look really close at the tanks since I'm not in the market for one so I'm not sure. I wouldn't bother calling because there customer service sucks and if they answer they probably won't tell you but if you can go in there, you'll be happy at what you see.

Would it hurt anything to also have it on from 6am to 8am in the morning?

They are Fluval 404's. I have a Hydor Koralia #4 in there now and it seems ok. i haven't added any fish to that one yet. I didn't understand at all what you are saying about off-gas co2. What does that mean?

I have my lights set up now from 11am to 10 pm. I leave for work well before the lights come on and soon after I get home the lights go off. Would it effect my fish if I had the lights go on from like 6am to 8am and then on again from like 4pm to midnight? I don't want to throw off their cycles just to see them in the morning. Thanks.

I was just at Roozens for my first time yesterday and was amazed to see an entire greenhouse full of brand new different tanks for sale. There must have been hundreds and they had good prices too. There customer service wasn't great but their tanks, fish and prices were very good.

Does a FOWLR tank need power heads? I have two Hydor 1200 gph power heads in my 100 gallon tank. I just got a 180 that I am going to make a reef tank and leave the 100 gallon as a FOWLR. I am trying to decide if I should take only 1 power head out or if it would be ok to put both power heads in the reef and leave just the 2 fluvals in the FOWLR for current. Thanks so much. Should this be moved to the New To The Hobby section or is it ok here?

I added water last night for the first time to my 180. I filled it up about half way with tap water and then poured in 3 bags of salt. I know I should use RO/DI and I know I should not have dumped the sand in so fast. My tank is now so cloudy that you can hardly see in too it and it has been this way since yesterday. I want to know how to get rid of this problem. Some say wait it out but I heard of this lasting a long time in other people's tanks. I've added a powerhead with an air jet and still no help. Right now it's only the salt and the water in the tank. Nothing else. Thanks, Scott

I took out the bulbs and I don't think they are the same. They are different sizes and one says XM250/D and the other says 250w and then below it says CE. Should I just replace? What would be a good replacement?
-
It's not actually brighter...one is more blue than the other. If it is the bulbs...what would be the best bet to replace them with?

Hello, I recently have been working on setting up my new 180 gallon tank. Everyone has been so helpful every step of the way. I just added water today for the first time and I now have a question about the lighting. The tank came with two VHO 110 watt T-12 actinic bulbs and two 250 watt metal halides. Both are retro kits built in to the hood. One of the metal halides seems to be brighter than the other so I was assuming that the bulbs may need to be replaced. Is this correct? If so, what would be a good bulb to purchase? I.e. brand, 10,000k, 15,000k, 20,000k etc. Also, the bulbs independently turn off for a while and then turn back on. Is this an overheating problem? Would it be a good idea to put fans blowing under the hood on to the ballasts or bulbs? Sorry for so many questions but I really want to set this up properly. Everyone has been so helpful. When I was told that WAMAS would be the best $20 I even spent....that was an understatement. Thanks so much.

I just wanted to let everyone know of a great site to purchase Loc-Line. They have great customer service and they even do bulk orders. http://www.modularhose.com

Roozens is right near my work. Do you think they would be of any help when it comes to lock line?
