  1. No date is set for the Kalk reactor but we were looking into mid October to start. Since we have a design already in mind, we will no doubt be starting earlier. I personally have to get a better handle on my kids school schedules before finding a sunday to play. We will plan another WAMAS CHAT session and post it on the KALK reactor thread so we can get an idea of numbers and dates. As of now, it will take place in my little Teepee in McLean, VA. Reefmon is going to try and get good prices on acrylic one we get an idea of what we need. Stay tuned. A lot has happened faster than we expected. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING "INVOLVED" IN THIS PLEASE PM ME YOUR PHONE NUMBER NOW (if you have not already) Chief Wannakalkreactor

  4. Tony, While you are there, look for red mangrove seedlings. (long pods) The name they may go by is rhizophora mangle. If you find them, wrap them in damp newspaper, put them in a plastic bag and mail them to yourself regular US mail. You should be able to easily find them and cheap too. .50 each While you'll never realize the filtration benifit, they do grow well (not fast) with little care and look cool. I bet you can mail 30 or so for less than 10 bucks. Nice pic, thanks for thinking of us poor slobs back here
  5. I have sent an email to get a logon so we can post pics of our cutting party and then the gluing party too. I wanted to get this set up now so I can post when ready. I am planning to dig this weekend and then do some work on the CA reactor to get that out of the way. Any word on the saw? Chip
  6. I sent a message off to our friend Howard (HFV21221) to see if he has more to offer now that his DIY kalk reactor is in use. Chief
  7. Well, we'll have to have another "chat session" to find out. :D Really: Don't know yet but I'm pretty sure I'm digging a foundation this Sunday 28th and pouring it if I'm lucky with weather. I'll let you know as we find out. We have 9 kalkindians. Chip
  8. Chris is going to see about renting a 16" saw. My 12" will cut it but it would require 2 cuts. While I've done this before, I look forward to NOT having to do this. Chip
  9. Ca reactor guys, We (the DIY Kalk guys) just had a chat in the WAMAS chat room - diy The chat room works well and we have decided on this design Chip
  10. We had a great chat in the WAMAS chat room. It works well! We have decided on this design but maybe a few modifications. I plan to talk to Howard and see if he suggests any changes (now that it's in use) other than what I plan us to modify. Thanks to all who participated and we'll plan another one soon to finalize our project. Chip
  11. If you haven't already, please PM me your phone number. Also, register for the WAMAS chat room (very fast and simple) so we can chat this out and get started. I'm going into the chat room- diy -tonight at 9:00p so stop in. Chip
  12. I just registered as "chief" and went in to a public chat I started called diy It's cool. See if you can get into it and say something in it. Once we can all get in then we'll set a time to chat. I maybe can for a bit Sunday evening say 9:00p
  13. I would be interested in one if the volunteers are allowed to get in on this. 1 M/L - me 1 S - Sonya (my wife) Chip
  14. Ahhh, now we know why she has that cute curly hair. :D
  15. Put it at the top or do it before you logon next. :D
  16. I wouldn't set up a tank without them. I have 2 dedicated for my 220. Theirs a reason they trip!
  17. I like this idea also. I have an idea, but would like to know more about how the power cord is glued. I think we can keep it from leaking. Looks like we have as many as 9 people so far, before we get any/many more we should get a firm plan together before it gets harder to agree upon a design. Sam do you have pics or a tutorial you care to share. Is there a chat feature we can all meet at and circle the wagons? ChiefChip Wannakalkreactor
  18. Ground fault interupter.(receptical) If you don't have one, don't put water in the tank! 5 gallon buckets with water in them. more Cola The words "No No" selective hearing No telling if the tank will be more stable, it will be more top heavy. Refer the two suggestions right above this. Funny thing about raising my kids, my tank also grew in the process. :p
  19. Not if you used copper, the fish could appear fine if a low dose. Did you use anything (chemical- liguid) to try and rid the algae? You may have lost all your buffer bank and the KH (and then PH) dropped. Use "clean" water and add good salt and exchange 25% HTH
  20. ACME plastics in Alexandria Piedmont Plastics in Rockville, MD(formally READ Plastics) There's a link on this forum somewhere but I always have a hard time finding things with the "search". I assume I'm doing something incorrectly.
  21. When you say practice, does that mean your moving it back also? :p Good luck and we'll meet up soon.
  22. You might be able to use a piece of plastic gutter guard which will have larger openings than a bulkhead strainer. I use it but my 2 bulkheads are both 2". I have some extra if you want a piece. Heck, I could drop a little piece in the mail. Chip
  23. Congratulations and very nice job on your new canopy. I wouldn't think with 175HM bulbs 18" from the water surface you would need to move anything unless they currently appear stressed. In time, you can move the bulbs closer to the water if you choose too.
  24. Glenn, I'm preparing your brave feather and diligently chipping away at an arrowhead for your efforts so far. Nice work! From a glimpse of these pics, We can easily rout out what I see with the exception of the keyholes for the thumb screws. On my CA reactor, I just taped the lower ring and threaded in the TS. I have about 15 - 4.5 O-rings we can inlay between the top 2 rings Do you have a link for the PM company that made the first pic? Chief Wannakalkreactor
  25. Kalk reactor folks, look here for a post from "Chief Wannakalkreactor"
