That's good, Jamie. You are right, the easier something is more likely you are to do it.

Jacob, I would imagine the "black box" is the container that holds the ballasts. It is probably the Hamilton light setup. From the sound of it it has three MH and a VHO setup all together with a reflector. The pins are the connectors from the light sockets to the ballasts. From what you are describing, one of the MH ballast is bad. Just make sure it is not the VHO connection. Pic would be helpful.

I actually never had any problems with becketts being dirty except for the tiny snails that get stuck in there and I would have to get them out. I soaked it once and saw that there wasn't that much to clean up except as I said earlier for the small snails. I put a sponge filter at the inlet and that helped a great deal with the snails. I don't know what kind of junk you are cleaning out of your beckett but if the snails are the problems, you may want to try that. I now have a down draft skimmer. I like it much better than the beckett style skimmer. Works well and much less maintenance. HTH

There are couple of members in the club who has drill bits and can drill tanks, me being one of them. I charge small fee to drill.

Saturdays are never good for me for it is Sabbath for me. Usually Sundays are good but not this Sunday. My son's graduation. I am home in the day time during the week. Whenever you are ready, come on by.
