the rules doesn't say they have to BELONG to you....... ask permission to photograph someone's tank am I correct in telling him this??
-
what he ^ said too.... once I stopped using tap water and went to RO/DI water I saw a HUGE difference in my tank....

from another SW forum I am on.... this person has a 'new' tank and found this creature in the LR. There are 2 of them now.... noone I know can Identify it.... the usual names have been brought up, Peanut worm, Bobbit worm, bristle worm... but none are exactly what this 'thing' looks like...... a post was also put on Marine Forum but noone there could identify it either...... I am posting comments by the person that 'owns' this thing...... http://www.thewebcastle.com/scaryTeeth.jpg Thing1 and Thing2 are center picture close to top of pic "My tank is still new, so we're just finding things. there is some tube like thing in my rock and all you can see is it's teeth opening and closing and sometimes it retracts into it's hole then reappears. This thing lives in the same hole and doesn't move other than to go in or out. And now it kind of looks like it's doubled. (two different mouths?). It just looks like this tube with teeth, that comes in and out of the rock. I've seen no legs or antannae. It just looks like a tube that can go in and out and it has triangular shaped "teeth" all around it's mouth, it also has another "head" right next to it that is smaller, but goes in and out with the other one. It is always in the same hole and has not moved. It can only seem to go in and out about 1/2 an inch. My son has named it "larry." any ideas??? Jan

I did go ahead and hook it up like this......... and I believe it is the correct way.... thanks!! The unit is up and running !!! took 2 days ........lol...... but I have success..... the output sure is slllllooooowwww but I think it is cause the feed water temp is so cold..... its a good feeling to finally have a RO/DI system here in the house

thanks john... I was about to make a BIG mistake .... and I don't think calling them on a Sunday is an option... Onward....... and upward......

well, I am starting the installation of my RO/DI system.... this is the one I bought.... OCEAN REEF + 1 FIVE STAGE 75 GPD RO/DI with the CHLORAMINE FILTER UPGRADE and RO BYPASS VALVE http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_systems.htm My question concerns the dual TDS METER 1/4 QUICK FITTINGS http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_add-ons.htm IMO there are no clear pictures as to where the thing connects...I thought it connected before the DI cannister and AFTER the DI connister.... but then I read here........ http://www.thefilterguys.biz/tds_meters.htm "Displays TDS levels of the <b>feed water</b> and <b>product water </b> with in & out electrode probes." which tells me it should be connected at the tapwater FEED line and at the end of the product line(AFTER the DI cannister)..? correct???? can anyone here help me out??? where should the meter be first connected and last connected?

I started with the Biowheel because I didn't know any better...... I am still a newbie and thought it was the best....... then I found this site the rest is history.......
-
I also got my RO/DI yesterday.... wow, much bigger and heavier than I thought it would be.....I purchased mine from 'thefilterguys.com'..... instructions seem to be good but we'll see once I start drilling stuff......lol....... this will truly be a " if I can do it anyone can do it" project....... I am not much on the DIY stuff anymore, esp. plumbing...... but I am excited to be this close to 'good' water for the tank

Since adding my lights (t5setup) I have been fighting HA. I was also using Tap water and fighting the nitrites/nitrates battle, I never could get 0 on either. It just so happened my POS filter BioWheel quit on me one evening so I went to Petco to buy a replacement(dats my story and.......) anyway, the one I bought (Marineland HOT Magnum bio pro) may not be a fancy-mancy one but it sure seems to do better than the Biowheel I had..... I also for the last 2 weeks have started using distilled water for water changes .... I have a RO/DI system suppose to be delivered today (woo-hoo) that is, if UPS can get thru all this ice here in Hagerstown ....... so what I have found is: WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! I don't know if it is because of the better filtering system(compared to what I had) or NOT using tap water........ but the HA seems to be dying off little by little and the snails are taking care of the rest........ My water parameters are now GREAT.... Nitrites are now 0, something I have never been able to achieve. Also my PH seems to have risen.... I could never get over 7.8 before.... I look forward to taking water tests and smile alot more afterwards ........ I cant wait till the RO/DI system is hooked up and the distilled water jugs disappear....

well, its good to know it isn't anything *IN* the tank making my arm all red n everything......

I am a computer person and I have a tower that takes LED light strips so it wil glow in the dark:) I never used them soooooo....... I had the brainac Idea to hook them up on my tank for 'moon lights' ....I read on another SW forum that this was achieved at some point so I figured I would try it .... I had to go to the EXPO center last weekend to get several computers for 'the business' so I bought a little 200W ATX Power Supply... once I had it all connected at the tank I found out the PS won't work without a Motherboard hooked up to it....DUH!!..... hhmmm.... googled abit and found this site...... http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/196/1 I now have 2 looonnnngggg blue light strips on my tank and can't wait till tonight for the 'moon to come out' ......

I have just obtained these corals and are now in my tank.... http://www.thewebcastle.com/_corals/ other than the brains spewing out some yukky mucus from time to time everyone seems to be settled in....... but since putting the corals in the tank my forearm has been stinging.... not my hand.... not the topside of my forearm.... just the bottom portion...... now I have NOT touched any of the corals, just the rock it came on.... but *everytime* I stick my arm in the tank now the forearm stings..... stings for about 15 mins....... and there are little red bumps.... is the mucus that is spewed out of the brains stinging me somehow?? if so, they are SO outta there......

I bought mine from 'thefilterguys' .... abit over $200 but they answered alot of emailed questions from me..... so Customer Service must be good .... Jan

Thanks everyone for the input......... Hopefully I can figure out how to hookup the RO/DI system once it gets here.... I am quite excited about it !! After reading all your comments I think I also need to take a look at my feeding habits.... maybe I am overfeeding just a tad.... well, maybe this much >....................................... < I have several Asterna snails and they seem to be eating the algae so maybe between the water, stop overfeeding, and the snails I can get relief from the algae....... I just need more patience......
-
Since adding my T5's the hair algae has exploded!!! I didnt think I even had any HA untill the lights were started up.....its everywhere..... I can't just turn the lights off as I have corals that need the light(LOADS of corals arriving this Saturday) ...sooooo.... I need to know if it will hurt my tank if I take the rocks out, scrub them, and everything in the tank ....maybe vacuum the sand.... will my fish be hurt by this??? I only have a scooter, bicolor, pipefish and a goby.... other tank mates are pep. shrimp and a variety of snails...... I was using tap water but now am using distilled water until my RO/DI unit arrives... the RO/DI unit should help some, right? is this the only way to get rid of the algae or is there a better way??? my corals arriving this Saturday(except for one I already have).... I *assume* they will need the lights..... http://www.thewebcastle.com/_corals/ I just want the tank to look good before I place the corals in the tank......
-
Thanks everyone for the advice...... I think I have enough information to make a decision....... I am excited to make this purchase.... I am tired of the tap water blues.....
-
I am going to buy a RO/DI system...... but after searching for an hour I am abit confused....... just exactly what are the most important things to look for when buying a RO/DI system? I only have one tank at the moment so I suppose I dont need a massive unit but, if I understand correctly, you lose about 4Gal to 1Gal of RO/DI water, right??? are there more efficient units than others?? or do they all do the same thing just different brands....... and I suppose I am going to need a plumber, right??? *information overload once again*
-
I gotta drop out of this one........ I am having several corals delivered Saturday and don't want them sitting on the doorstep in the cold. sorry :( Jan

If all else fails, Troll.... contact me and if I am planning to go to the event you can ride with me.... I live in Hagerstown so I could pick you up on the way.......

I recieved my light fixture and bulbs today... awesome packaging... everything was in *perfect* order...... very nice.... now I gotta go get some kind of chain, I guess, to hang this thing from the ceiling... Anyone have any experience with ReefGeek?? I placed an order with them on the 4th.... got the confirmation email that they recieved the order..... and my CC was charged on the 4th...... but I haven't heard *anything* else from them....... I would've thought they would have sent the email at least by today saying they are shipping ....... or something...... they do have this on their site.... "We stock most of the products we sell and are committed to shipping all in-stock items* within 1 business day. In fact, all in stock orders placed before 2:00 PM Pacific Time will ship out the same business day. That
