I am in the process of researching the Snowflake eel. Does anyone own one and if so how do you like yours? Any issues with these eels? Any feedback on them is appreciated.

Thanks

I loved mine, he was awsome till he went carpe surfing :( , you can not have with an open top tank, ask dave, dhoch

I love mine. Had him 2 years. Tunnels the sand is my only complaint. Never tried to attack or eat anything except his shrimp on a stick :). He did look for escape routes when I fist got him, at that time my hood was tight fitting. A year ago I opened up the canopy a bit and he hasn't noticed yet. I got him at about 6" long and as thin as popsicle stick. He is now 18" and about 3/4" fat

according to my lfs they eat hermits.... I dunno if i belive that or not. Nor Had i seen my tunnel, but I'd love to get another one soon

They may eat hermits. My experience is when a shrimp falls off the prong and the hermits attack it the snowflake grabs the shrimp and shakes it until they flail away like little girly hermits. I guess it may be differant from individual to individual, just like us, some hunt and some wait for the pizza guy to ring the doorbell.

Rebecca,

For 3 years I had a chain link eel in my reef (it passed away earlier this year from unknown causes)...

There are pluses and minuses to eels of this group:

Pluses: they are very cool, they are sand aerotors (both good and bad).

Minuses: they are clumsy and tend to knock over frags, they can and may eat the following: shrimp, crabs, small fish, hermits and snails.

My personal experience: Mine never ate a shrimp (in fact my cleaners hung out with my eel, cleaning him even inside his mouth), I could not keep a crab (he ate them as soon as he found them)... Early on he ate snails, but never hermits or small fish...

They are fast growers and escape artists (mine went carpet surfing at least once) and went from 8"-28" in the time I had him.

Yes these types of eels are ideal for a tank with triggers.

Sweet. Thats what I wanted to hear. How's the cut from the accident by the way? If its not closing up, I have some medical supplies that I have leftover from my last job at the hospital. I have several sizes of suture strips. Just let me know.

Cut's ok... my wifes a nurse she has pleanty of that kind of stuff... Now I have to deal with a) the headache of 100s of phones calls for insurance and b) driving some crappy rental car.

Just look it this way, it could've been much worse. Prior to getting into medicine, I worked at nationwide insurance. Needless to say I saw plenty of things that made me the defensive driver I am today. On a lighter note, its pretty sweet to have a nurse in the house. Free medical supplies!!

Could have been a ton worse... The dang bus drive just didn't look as he pulled out into the road... I did a lot to avoid the accident, but when someone comes out in front of you at 40 MPH it's really hard to get out of the way.
