Neaco August 26, 2021 August 26, 2021 Once the nuisance algae is eaten by my snails they die off. So I want to feed them so they stick around. I have an algae sheet holder for my tangs that attaches to the glass with an external magnet but the tangs eat all of it (a few snails will attach later for "crumbs"). If I add sinking tablets then I guess my fish and serpent stars will eat them. Any ideas? Snails are people too.
howaboutme August 26, 2021 August 26, 2021 What kind of snails? Margaritas? Interesting because I don't have much visible algae yet my snails are doing well. There should always be something in the tank as a result of just normal feeding, etc ..
DaJMasta August 27, 2021 August 27, 2021 There is always some residual algae/biofilm they can eat, and some snails will go after detrius and uneaten food too. The short answer is they probably won't need anything supplemental provided you keep feeding the other stuff in the tank, but if you have a lot of them they have a higher chance of going hungry. I'm not sure there are many ways to specifically feed them because they just sort of search around at random, so if you think they are going hungry, the best way is probably just feeding a little more to the tank.
Neaco August 28, 2021 Author August 28, 2021 I was worried about getting more algae by bumping up the feedings but now I have more snails so a good idea. And that’s probably better for the he fish. I have Astrea, Cerith, Nerite and Nassarius snails. The Margaritas are for me.
