Like the last meeting, this meeting will be streamed to Facebook Live with limited participation available on our Zoom platform. We will post details of how to participate in this thread, so please check back as we update the thread with details. As with our last two virtual meetings, a limited number of Zoom slots will be made available to WAMAS Members, and only by request and first-come-first-served basis. (Instructions will be provided later on how to ask for a Zoom slot. Please wait to make your request until AFTER registration has been announced.)

This meeting will be free to WAMAS members and members of the WAMAS Facebook group. Keep in mind that, to view the meeting on the Facebook Livestream, you MUST be have an account on Facebook and must be a member of the WAMAS group. If you're not on Facebook, then you're going to have to request a Zoom slot if you want to participate in the meeting.

2:15 PM    Speaker

3:30 PM    Discussion / Q&A

Speaker:

Matt Wandell has been keeping coral reef aquariums since 1999.  He has been a professional aquarist at the Steinhart Aquarium at the California Academy of Sciences and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Matt has a keen interest in developing new techniques for the husbandry of advanced and difficult species of ocean animals. He is currently the Husbandry Operations Project Manager at the Monterey Bay Aquarium where he is supervising construction of an ambitious new exhibit focused on animals living in the deep sea.

Topic:

Matt will be discussing the care of nonphotosynthetic corals and other invertebrates, how NPS corals can be integrated into a typical reef aquarium, and how to set up a dedicated “NPS tank”.  Suitable tankmates, pest management, lighting, automation, and similar musings will be discussed.

Raffle Process and Rules

  • No purchase is necessary.
  • The raffle is open to WAMAS members only. (You must be a member at the time of the drawing.) The WAMAS President is ineligible.
  • The drawing will be held during the WAMAS meeting
  • The winner must be "present" at the meeting (either through Zoom or Facebook) to claim the prize.  If not present, we'll draw for the next winner.
  • Members that sign up have an equal chance at winning.
  • A week or so before the meeting, we'll start a sign-up thread in the forum. We'll post a link in this thread.
  • Members participate in the raffle by posting once and once only to this thread. Duplicate sign ups will be deleted. If this rule is abused, a member may be removed as a partricipant.
  • This thread will be closed the night before the drawing. No warning will be given to the thread closure.
  • The WAMAS President will use an online random number generator to generate a number from 2 to the max post# in the thread and will announce the winning number. The drawn number identifies the winner by their post number (i.e., sequence number in the thread).
  • If the winner is present, we'll mail or transfer the award to them. If not, we'll draw again until we have a winner.

How to Attend: Zoom or Facebook Livestream?

This meeting will be available to a limited number of members through our Zoom account, but the default means of attending should be the Facebook livestream if at all possible to ensure that we have adequate resources available to all of us.

To participate through the Facebook livestream, you need to be a member of the WAMAS Facebook group. If you're not already a member of this group, you may want to request membership now because we may not be able to approve your request if things get too busy during the meeting. We'll also be livestreaming on Facebook,

If you don't have a Facebook account, you can request one of our Zoom slots. If you're interested in attending the meeting on Zoom,  please send me a PM with the subject "Zoom Request". Note also that I will not respond to requests until I have a full accounting of the situation which will probably be until just a few days before the meeting. If you don't hear from me right away, rest assured, though, that your request has not fallen into a black hole.

Questions for the speaker are taken from both Facebook and Zoom attendees, so neither way of attending will offer an advantage in that sense.

WAMAS Raffle Registration Closes Sunday at Noon - Don't Miss Out!

Don't forget! We are raffling prizes (donated by several of our dedicated sponsors!) at this upcoming (virtual) meeting, featuring Matt Wandell who will speak on Husbandry of Non-Photosynthetic (NPS) Corals. The meeting will start this Sunday, July 25th at 2 PM.

Signing up for the raffle is as easy as responding to the forum post located here and joining us at the meeting on Sunday. We have six raffle prizes to give away so you're chances of winning could be pretty good. As usual, key rules to note include:

  • The raffle is open to WAMAS members only.
  • You must be "present" at the drawing to win the prize.
  • You enter the raffle by responding to the (linked) post/thread once and only once before the thread closes.
  • The (linked) thread will close at noon on the day of the meeting, so sign up by then or miss out!

The Grand Prize (a Typhoon III Extreme, 150 gpd five-stage RODI system valued at $300) donated by long-time WAMAS sponsor, Air, Water & Ice, and more. You can find details about all the prizes at the top of this thread and also in the raffle sign up thread (linked above).

Zoom slots still available. PM me if you want to participate via Zoom. WAMAS members are prioritized, but if you're a non-member (e.g., BB Participant), send me a PM and I'll see if we can get you in. Of course, the Facebook Livestream will still be going.

For those that have already asked, I've sent you a PM with Zoom instructions. If you've asked for a slot and didn't hear back, reach out to me again.

If you've not already registered and you're a WAMAS member that will attend tomorrow's meeting, it's time to register for the raffle. (See post above for the link to instructions on how to participate.) You must register to have a chance at winning.

Raffle sign-up closed at noon. 42 members have signed up. We have six prizes to give away so you're odds are pretty good if you show up and stay all the way through to the end! (You must be "present" - and speak up when your name is called - to win, otherwise we'll pull another number.)

Thanks again, everybody. The meeting will start at 2 PM on both Facebook Live (Group: WAMAS) and on Zoom (by request only). See earlier posts for details.
