Josh&Sarah January 21, 2021 January 21, 2021 I am having an annoying problem. I have 2 BRS low profile dosing jugs under my stand behind the sump. The problem is, the dosing tubing curls up and I am paranoid the level will drop below the tube prematurely. I tried the merlok fitting on the top with an acrylic rod but the connection between the rod and flexible tubing would break prime sometimes and I just don't trust it. Why isn't there an acrylic tube that narrows down into a tubing nipple? That would be a bullet proof solution. No intermediate fitting required. Is there such a thing? Any suggestions? Mahalo!
WheresTheReef January 21, 2021 January 21, 2021 If I understand you correctly you have something like my diy container shown below. If you are experiencing a prime break then either the o-ring is bad, or you didn't seat the tube/rod into the fitting well enough. IME it takes a lot of pressure to insert the acrylic rod into the fitting. To the point that you won't be able to pull the rod out. I've been running this setup with 2 containers for years now without issues.

Well, sans that my containers are needing to be filled up more frequently. FWIW, I always run the pumps for a couple of seconds after I fill up any containers to make sure there is still a prime there.
Josh&Sarah January 21, 2021 Author January 21, 2021 Yes. This is precisely what I had. I was fearful the prime break was coming from the soft tubing side. If you guys have been running it that long with no problem I will try again and have more faith. The acrylic tube with a nipple idea is a winner though. Thanks!
YHSublime January 21, 2021 January 21, 2021 Like Eric mentioned, you really gotta push to get the seal. I found that with the acrylic rod side
jhOU January 22, 2021 January 22, 2021 ditto with pushing the acrylic rod REALLY hard. Are you using airline tubing or rodi tubing for the dosing lines? If you have to use the soft tubing, i use these stem barb adapters that actually fithttps://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/john-guest-stem-barb-connector-1-4-od-stem-x-3-16-id-barbSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Josh&Sarah January 22, 2021 Author January 22, 2021 I was pushing airline tubing directly into the fitting.
