A Red Fish...Blue Fish...

Hey All,

The fish stock list is nearly complete but I need some pretty shades of red in my tank. I am thinking of getting a Flame Angel fish but I already have a Majestic angel in the tank. Not sure how the Majestic would feel about another angel fish. I would also consider a flasher wrasse but I have a Radiant wrasse in my tank. Again, concern about compatibility...and jumping out of the tank.

Any suggestions for more red color?

Please understand I am not just picking my fish for their color but it is nice to get colorful fish in the tank that are compatible with their fish mates and are reef safe.

Thanks

Rebecca

A flame and a majestic shouldn't pose any problems together. They are in different genuses (is that how to pluralize it?) and also, in a tank the size of yours, compatibility with them with the hiding spaces you have shouldn't pose problems even if you mixed the same genus together. I don't think that the wrasses will have problems either, although they will probably chase each other a bit when they do encounter each other.

As far as reds and blues, maybe a school of anthias? You could knock out the reds and blues with one shot and also get the quintessential reef fish.

By the way, some of the smaller leaf halimeda has finally grown out a bit and the other stuff is starting to come back after my diatom/dinoflagellate problem has subsided in my 58, so I definitely have some of the smaller leaf for you and the other stuff, hopefully soon.

I really enjoy having my male/female anthias. The females are a nice bright orange -- kinda goldfish like but I really like them nevertheless. The male one is several beautiful colors of red and purple.

I am planning on putting three Carbarryi Anthias in my tank for some color but they are a little subdued in color. I was looking for other suggestions.

Yanek,

I had the male/female Lyrtail Anthias in my other tank. They are beautiful fish. Just looking for something different.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming.

For a red fish - have you looked at any of the Catalina Gobies? I'd love to have one but they are in cooler waters (around 72 degrees) and I can't keep my tank at that low a temperature if my life (or the fishes life) depended on it :( They aren't a commonly found fish but they beautiful and are available once in a while. There is also a Zebra Catalina Goby, not as pretty as the regular Catalina Goby, but it doesn't seem to have the same cooler temp cautions.

Just read part of your tank set up thread and saw your heat concerns. (I followed the thread early on but then I missed quite a bit and never got caught up.) This fish might not work for you right now :-(

Hi Eve,

Yes, I read about the Catalina gobies too. Perhaps, if I decide to go that cool on my seahorse tank, I might consider them. They would be a nice addition to a smaller SH tank. I decided to replumb my seahorse tanks so it will run as a seperate system from the main tank. Obviously, I can't let the SH tank jump up to 82-83 degrees. ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion, though.
