antoine July 29, 2006 July 29, 2006 What is it about leopard wrasses that make them so hard to keep? Is it that it is hard to get them to eat? I just bought one yesterday and it is already eating anything that I put in the tank. I live down the street from roozens so i stop in there alot. Usually when they get the leopard wrasses in they look bad and stressed the first couple of days then perk up or die. This particular shipment looked very healthy from day one and was eating the first day.
Gadgets July 29, 2006 July 29, 2006 From what I understand, some species are hardier to keep than others. If they are shipped correctly, which means that they are shipped with mostly sand and a small amount of water, then they will do fine. Hope this helps.
Caribbean Jake July 30, 2006 July 30, 2006 I bought my Leopard Wrasse from Roosen in Nov. 2004. It has been thru three major catastrophies in my tank including the debacle Flat Worm Exit, and the 14 hour power outage. I have seen him struggle and still make a come back. Perhaps I have a blue thumb (like green thumb with plants) , or I been extremely lucky with this specimen. Either way, they are not easy to keep, but as long as you provide a deep sand bed and plenty of pods and cyclopeeze they are happy and continue to kick. The reason for the deep sand bed, is; more than once I have had issues with water quality, thermostat breaking down, and Flat Worm Exit problem, and in every of those instances the Wrasse has burried himself in the deep sand for days and come back to survey the tank once the tank is restored. Also, if you noticed, they like to sleep under the sand, at least mine does every night in the same spot. Do you have a deep sand bed?, if not, then please do not consider taking on a Leopard Wrasse, pass and get another wrasse that applies to your set up. just my 2
