Guest Bemmer July 28, 2006 July 28, 2006 Hey where did my two little neon gobies go? When my Bluechin triggers showed signs of Marine Velvet I put the neon gobies in the QT tank with them in hopes that they would "clean" some of the parasites. Two days after putting the gobies in the QT tank, they disappeared. No really they are gone. How did two neon gobies disappear from a 29 gal QT tank? Did the triggers eat them?? R
HowardofNOVA July 28, 2006 July 28, 2006 Hey Rebecca, If your serving Sushi, I like mine either Tuna or Yellowtail! ....sorry, but in nature, they allow themselves to be cleaned by gobies, when they are not hungry! I believe yours came in the later! :(
Guest Bemmer July 28, 2006 July 28, 2006 Okay, well it looks like the gobies where a meal for the triggers. Yes, I made the mistake of putting the gobies in AFTER the triggers had been in the QT tank for about a week. In theory, my hope was to have the gobies "clean" the parasites off the triggers but obviously THAT did not work out. Well, I guess I am looking for more neon gobies. This time, I will be sure to put the gobies in the tank FIRST...or better yet, not in a small QT tank with triggers.
Ne0eN July 28, 2006 July 28, 2006 What are you feeding your triggers? It may be a good idea to feed them first, then add gobies. -- Rob
davelin315 July 28, 2006 July 28, 2006 Don't forget how small they are, perhaps they went into your filter? By the way, saltwaterfish.com had neons at 2 for $11 if you want to replace them. They need to be "grown out" before they are added to a tank as they are about 1/2" or smaller when they come in and thinner than a pencil lead, but once they have eaten for a bit, they can go into the tank. It's kind of like buying frags whenever I get an order from saltwaterfish!

Rebecca, sorry to hear about the expensive treat for your bluechins.....On a positive note, I just received 6 blue neons from ORA. John
traveller7 July 28, 2006 July 28, 2006 Well meaning, but frankly: cleaner gobies and wrasses in a closed system don't have a prayer of keeping up with parasite loads within the system. If the fish are sick, you'll need to treat them.

I have been dosing Ruby reef and am in the process of bring my salinity down to 1.009. The parasites on the fish are not as noticable. But from what I have read, that does not mean much. I will continue to QT the triggers for at least four more weeks at the lower salinity. John John, Guess I will be coming to see you soon for a pair of your blue neon gobies. Let me know if you get any gold striped ones from ORA. R-

My condolences on your gobies :( ... Johnny has one less goby as of today courtesy me. And ditto on the gold striped -- I'm interested in one also.
