Guest tgallo May 9, 2004 May 9, 2004 test kit arrived from england today, merck, wich is a highly acurate test kit for phosphates, low range testing. First test was done with tank water and my reading is 0.007 wich is awsome, nice and low. Second test was done on my ro/di water, and the reading was 0.000. i have been running 6liter's of rowaphos for about two weeks now and i wish i got the test kit sooner so i could of tested the water before filtering with rowa.
Guest tgallo May 9, 2004 May 9, 2004 if you decide to get a merck test kit for po4 and have a connection overseas, keep in mind merck makes two po4 test kits, standard and low range, you want the low range kit, test kit # 1.14445.0001
geofloors May 10, 2004 May 10, 2004 Tony, Can you get me in contact with your connection? Thanks, George
Guest va_reefman May 10, 2004 May 10, 2004 Tony, You are running 6 littlers of rowa phos at the same time in 2 weeks? How big is your tank? I thought 1 litter is good for up to 1000L which is roughly about 260g tank for several months. I asked because I just hook up a phos reactor and put one litter in it and it looks full. My reactor is 24H x 4" in diameter. Thanks, John
Guest tgallo May 14, 2004 May 14, 2004 hey george i'll give it a try, but it was a friend who sent me the kit over from england. if you pm rik/lieshman, i think his parents are coming over from england in a couple of weeks and you mite be able to work something out with him. Hey john, my tank is a 350 and i'm running the rowa thru a 9 liter deltec reactor. It really depends on your po4 levels to begin with , as far as how much rowa to use, i think 1 liter of rowa , will drop the po4 level by 1ppm.
Guest tgallo May 14, 2004 May 14, 2004 the problem i'm having to date is i wasen't able to test for po4 until i got the test kit, and by that time, my po4 level dropped to 0.007 wich is almost nill, some corals/ sps are showing signs of base receding, wich i equate to a sudden drop in po4, water chemistry change to sudden, theory. i since have slowed the flow down thru the reactor to see if more feedings will raise the po4 levels and help with sps recovery. on a side note, certain sps wich stopped growing months ago, are showing signs of growth, new blue tips. The reason for running the rowa was to lower po4 levels and control the hair algae bloom i had, guess what , it worked. A lgae is going away, but some sps are not happy with the sudden po4 drop and letting me know.
Sph2sail May 16, 2004 May 16, 2004 Tony, I have a Salifert PO4 test kit. Is this one from Merck that much more accurate? I've been reading zeros w/the Salifert. I'd love to know if the Salifert is really telling me the truth... s
michaelg May 18, 2004 May 18, 2004 The merck test kit tests really really low levels of phosphate. Way below the sensativity of the salifert kit which I use (I was detecting it before, but now it shows nothing). Michael
