Joshifer September 15, 2016 Share September 15, 2016 I noticed brown specs of hair algae on the glass. Which I scraped off with the mag float. I never had this even last time. I'm guessing it's my light it's on for 8 hours a day. I'm swapping tanks tomorrow and wanted to put my 6 gallons (more like 5) of tank water into the new tank so the water isn't super clean for the coral. Does hair algae transfer via water? My nitrates are only 5. I don't know the phos I don't have a kit.
Joshifer September 16, 2016 Author Share September 16, 2016 I think it's hair. Maybe it's diatoms scraped right off Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
madweazl September 16, 2016 Share September 16, 2016 Algae has nothing to do with your light schedule; it is a product of water quality (quality probably isnt the right term really). My light cycle is 12 hours daily (both channels driven equally) and I get very little growth on the glass (only need to scrub once a week and usually more because there are a bajillion pods/snails on the glass than algae). How long has the tank been set up?
Rob A September 16, 2016 Share September 16, 2016 Hair algae is common in new tanks. You usually have to let it runs it's course. Scrape and pull out what you can and eventually it goes away.
