markcole1983 October 7, 2015 October 7, 2015 I have a lot of this purple red algae growing on my rocks and starting to grow on my glass. Is it harmful to my tank and how do i get rid of it or control it i tried posting a pic but i cant get it to show up
lutz123 October 7, 2015 October 7, 2015 Is it red turf algae? From your pic it kind of looks like cyanobacteria. Can you slurp it up with a turkey baster?
markcole1983 October 8, 2015 Author October 8, 2015 No it doesn't slup up i just look up the red turf algae and that sounds like what i got
John-Solo October 8, 2015 October 8, 2015 Iv heard that yellow tangs and Mexican turbo snails can help with Red turf algae, but it's more a case by case sort of thing. Also read that taking the effected rocks out and washing them in a 3% peroxide mix can work. I don't know if that would kill other organisms on the rock and cauls an ammonia spike though.
