Im getting a 75 gal set up off a friend of mine that is moving up to a 210 so he is giving me all the live rock, live sand, pumps and light that were with the tank. Im thinking taking 50% of the water that in the tank to. Any recommendations or advice on the moving and setting back up the tank at my house would be awesome and he just moved his fish and coral out of the tank yesterday.

I have had a few freshwater tank and i currently have a 55gal freshwater tank

Welcome! You've come to the right place! There wont be much in the water that you need to worry about bringing over with you, but all the beneficial stuff will be in your live rock and sand. Depending on how old and deep the sand bed is, be cautious about steering it up to much before using it again. I personally always prefer to use new sand, but that is, again, personal preference. I would at least rinse it if you're going to reuse it.

You should make the purchase of an RO/DI, which sounds like it might be all you need, because your friend is giving you everything else. You might need some salt to mix up as well if you're going to be setting it up again at your place, perhaps your friend can give you a hand in this department?

Welcome again, and ask questions and read everything you can, it won't take long till you're hooked for life!

How offen should I be doing water changes im being told every week but i thought i read somewhere that i should only do it onec a month and how much water should i be changing

There are people from both columns there. It really depends on your nutrients in your tank on when you should be doing water changes.
