Dario5678 June 19, 2015 June 19, 2015 Im looking to purchase sand for the bottom of my tank. I am looking for something that wont blwo over the place when the fish hit ot or from the watr flow...any recommendations? Do you guys think its better to order online or is there a recommended place topurchase in souther MD area? I want about an inch of sand in a 90 gallon 48x18. Also I read an article about adding rock beore the sand so the sand doesnt get dirty while rock is cycling...anyone oever heard of this? Most of what I see is rocks being placed on top of sandbed
YHSublime June 19, 2015 June 19, 2015 Here are some good discussions on what types of sand are good for your purpose. #1 #2 #3 You can certainly find deals online for whatever you decide to get, but you could also support a local sponsor and get it from there. Don't forget, a lot of our sponsoring LFS offer a discount with a WAMAS card. The reason you want to add the rock before the sand is so your rock is in place, and the sand will help keep it there. Your sand is like the rock, it will cycle with it.
John Ford June 19, 2015 June 19, 2015 If you plan on having sandsifters you want your rock on the glass or on egg crate/starboard which some prefer then add your sand. That way if a sandsifter starts moving everything your rocks dont shift and break your glass.
