Gadgets March 9, 2006 Author March 9, 2006 Thanks. If only I could find a way to make a 180 fit upstairs... B)
Gadgets March 9, 2006 Author March 9, 2006 Jake Yes, I take my own photos. I am using a Nikon D100, but I am trying to get my hands on a D200. Can't find them anywhere... Thanks for the compliments!
Gadgets March 9, 2006 Author March 9, 2006 I bought the icecaps at MACNA from Jeremy at Preimium Aquatics. I love them.

Gadgets March 9, 2006 Author March 9, 2006 what about the ballasts? I got Advance and I'm thinking of chainging to IceCap 250W 55772[/snapback] This is my lighting setup: (2) BlueLine 10k+ Bulbs (14k actually) (2) Icecap 250W Ballasts (2) Spider Reflectors (2) 110W Uri VHO Actinics (1) Icecap 660 Ballast (2) Icecap 4" Variable speed fans (For cooling canopy) I have never used advance, so I cn't really comment on them. The Icecaps are awesome. No heat, small size, great par! I Highly reccomend them. I would have gone with 10k bulbs, but I love the blue look. Hope this helps.

stank March 12, 2006 March 12, 2006 Nice looking tank and great pics, Thanks. I dont think your new wrasse will appreciate the barebottom though. Once the bare bottoms age they look nice but I could never do it with all my wrasse's.
discordja March 12, 2006 March 12, 2006 Chris, How do you go about keeping the bottom clean now? Do you just have some kind of vacuum with some fine mesh filter at the end to collect all the build up or do you just try to keep it all suspended in the water column so it can be removed by the skimmer? I figure you could also keep it mostly clear by stirring it up and running it through a cannister filter. Just trying to get an idea of the efficient methods you've found so far. Maybe Erik will chime in here and let us know how he does it also.

To siphon I just use some vinyl tubing. I think it is about 1/2" diameter. I try to keep it suspended for the most part so that it can be removed by the skimmer and the filter sock. I do a 15-20% water change every week and siphon out the tank then as well. Hope this helps.
Gadgets March 17, 2006 Author March 17, 2006 UPDATE All is well in the BB world. The new wrasse has so much more color now than when I first got him. I am continuing to use Kent Marine 2-part until I get my kalk reactor and calcium reactor. I can see that the amount of detritus that the rock is shedding has decreased since I first started BB in this tank. I am going to try and get some interesting photos this weekend to show you guys! Thanks for looking.
Guest alex wlazlak March 17, 2006 March 17, 2006 when you made it BB, what all did you do? just syphon it all out or some bits at a time? did it get cloudy at all after you did it?
Gadgets March 17, 2006 Author March 17, 2006 I first drained the majority of the tank water into two vats. One was for corals and the other was for the live rock. I then removed the corals and placed them into the first vat. I removed the rock and made sure that I swished it as much as possible to remove any detritus. Then I placed each one into the second vat. I used a scooper and a couple of buckets to drain the rest of the water and sand. I then took down the tank and cleaned it completely out and also painted the bottom black. This was a perfect time to clean up everything sdso I did. I cleaned the sump, skimmer, and powerheads. After all of that was done, I replaced the rock and aquascaped it to my satisfaction. Then the corals and water were placed back into the tank. It took a total of 8 hours, but it was worth it. I could of done it quicker, but I never like to rush things when it comes to my tank. HTH.
Guest Kimo March 17, 2006 March 17, 2006 Wow, only 8 hours? That would have taken me much longer, IME. Nice tank. Was the skimmer worth the $$$$? I haven't used many other skimmers, but comparing it to those and others that I have seen running. I think that you can't get anything better. I bought mine used so I saved some money. They are welll worth the cost.
Gadgets April 26, 2006 Author April 26, 2006 Update I have added a solar wrasse and an emperor angel since the last posts in this thread. Everything seems to be going well. However, I have noticed some lighting on two of my corals. Both are milliporas. I think that my phosphates may be creeping up on me. I ordered a psoban reactor and will be installing it in about a week or so. New Photos
