Guest Edwardj February 10, 2006 February 10, 2006 I have had a green bubble tip for about 2 months, and all has been great. My tomato clown feeds him, he has been attached to the same rock the whole time. Then a few weeks ago, I noticed it shriveled up to almost nothing. I called around, but could not get any explanation. An hour later, it was normal again. When it was shriveled up, i could see it's mouth open, so I thought maybe it was getting rid of waste. This has gone on now for a while, but tonight, the thing shriveled up again. It has never before happened at night, and it's been this way a few hours. Its tentacles look listless, and the clown seem to be buffeting it excessively. Has anyone seen any of these things? Any suggestions? If it dies, overnight, will it poison the tank like a cucumber, or just like any other dead fish? Also, I have an acro that in the last few days has been showing white on the tips - as if it's skin is kind of washing away. Could these be related? Also, I had some calerpula that i think went bad a few days ago, but I removed it. Any comments would be most appreciated! Edwardj
flowerseller February 10, 2006 February 10, 2006 We need water parameter #'s and what size tank? The anemone is acting normal and may even be spliting or getting ready to. If the tissue appears to be disintegrating (smoking) then you should try to suck it out with a hose like during a water exchange. The acro, may be starting to grow unless you actually see skin flaking away, or it my be starting to bleach. You using a skimmer and additives?
magnetic1 February 10, 2006 February 10, 2006 Hrm... mine does this every 2-3 days... <shrug> Check this Anemone FAQ out: http://www.carlosreef.com/AnemoneFAQ.pdf
rocko918 February 10, 2006 February 10, 2006 it was just expelling all it's water. Sort of a cleaning. Then refreshing it's self with clean fresh water. Don't worry you will see it do it alot.

Looks like its fine. Maybe I'll be a daddy soon of two anenome's.
rocko918 February 10, 2006 February 10, 2006 how often do you feed it? You may have not see it do it before but i am sure it has done it many times.

Looks like its fine. Maybe I'll be a daddy soon of two anenome's. 52691[/snapback] I would expect to find shifts in water parameters, expelling food/wsate, etc. at the heart of the matter. It appears there are quite a few additives going into the the tank and anemones can be quite sensitive to such shifts. fwiw: my BTAs shrivel up every time I scrape the glass or shutdown the skimmer for maintenance. Keep an eye on the stability, long term success requires it. Side note: if the clown is pounding the anemone during these, down times, the anemone can be seriously injured. Be cautious to the point of preparing to cover the anemone with a "strawberry" basket for protection. Good luck.
