steveoutlaw February 5, 2006 February 5, 2006 I have a 6x24w HO T5 fixture and I'm looking to upgrade to a 65g tank. Will I have a problem on the sides with this setup or do the t5s put off enough light to make up for this?
flowerseller February 6, 2006 February 6, 2006 By the time the light spread reaches the bottom of the 24" I think you'll be fine. Keep mushrooms or button polyps at the edges. I really like that size tank after seeing the RR one at Wally's.
quazi February 6, 2006 February 6, 2006 I HAD 330 watts of VHO (3x110) on my 55. Now I have 108 watts (2x54) on the same 55 gallon tank and my corals are doing better than ever. I was using a icecap ballast, now my T5s are driven by a regular T5 ballast. GO t5s! :2thumbsup:
rioreef February 6, 2006 February 6, 2006 With 6 T5s over the tank you have no problems for intensity or enough light for your corals. Worried about the spread, again by time it reached the bottom it will have spread out. Also, if your rockwork extends high into the corners there should be lower light here because of the 24" bulbs. Try shrooms or other lower light corals there as well and see if they like it. Chris
Lee Stearns February 6, 2006 February 6, 2006 Steve, I don't think they are going to work on your new 65G I have a 54 corner they'd work on perfectly. Send them to me so you can upgrade with new lights for that new system!!
flowerseller February 6, 2006 February 6, 2006 I have a left handed 6x24w HO T5 fixture and I'm looking to upgrade to a 65g tank. Lee, thet won't work for you, your tank is on the right hand side.
steveoutlaw February 6, 2006 Author February 6, 2006 Lee - I would hate to transport these heavy lights over to your place if we're not sure they're going to work. Why don't you bring the 54g corner over here and set it up so we can make sure they work. The test period should only last 2-3 years. :D
